Today is very bittersweet, as it is Dr. Choudhry's last day at Loudoun Ob/Gyn and Midwives. He started this practice 34 years ago, has seen around 50,000 women, and delivered 4,000+ babies!

Dr. Choudhry has been able to say goodbye to some of his long-time patients over the past couple months, but of course he wishes to say goodbye to each one of you individually and wish you all the best.

Dr. Choudhry is going to play a lot of golf, enjoy his two grandchildren, listen to his wife more 😉, and volunteer at the Loudoun Free Clinic and get back into doing mission work.

We sure will miss all the story telling and laughter around the office, because there's never a dull moment when he's around! Enjoy your retirement to the fullest, Dr. C!

Love,
Your staff ❤

[03/17/20]   Important news regarding the visiting policy for our expectant moms.

Women’s Visitation Policy March 14, 2020 Dear Patients and Families,
To protect you and your family from COVID-19 and other illnesses, Inova Women’s Services has modified our visitation policy, effective immediately. These measures follow recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Limitations for visitors to Inova’s Labor and Delivery Units, Post-Partum Units, High- Risk Perinatal Unit, and OB Triage/Obstetrical Emergency Departments:

 Only one dedicated significant other/support; we welcome him/her to stay with the patient during the patient’s hospital stay.

 This significant other/support person must be at least 18 years of age

 Additional visitors will not be allowed at this time.
Any significant other/support person who is sick, has traveled to a high-risk area, or has been in direct contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 must stay home:

 If you have a fever or cough, please stay home at least 24 hours after the fever is gone without the use of anti-fever medication.

 If you have recently returned from a CDC designated high-risk area, have recently been on a cruise, or have come in contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, please talk to the patient’s nurse prior to visiting.

 If you come in contact with anyone who is sick, please let your nurse or doctor know, so we can determine if there are any additional precautions that might be recommended for you or others.

Frequent Hand Washing Is Critical:
 Wash your hands and use waterless hand gel OFTEN!
 Handwashing is the most effective way to prevent the spread of illness.
 Wash your hands before going in the patient’s room, touching the patient and after you
leave.
 If you touch your face, nose, hair, gel your hands or wash your hands before touching
anything else.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask your doctor or nurse. Women’s Service Line Leadership

What's a Doula?

One question we get asked a lot in the office is “What is a doula?”.

Think of a doula as a member of your support team, along with your partner, family members, OB, midwife, and labor nurse. Doulas are there to provide you with emotional support, physical support, and knowledge about your labor. Whether you plan on a natural birth in our birth center or you know you want an epidural, a doula is someone who will be there to support you and help you achieve your ideal birth.

A new way to think about the transition to motherhood

Happy Monday Morning!! This six minute talk explores a concept called "Matrescence" which is an interesting way of discussing the adjustment period into motherhood.

ted.com When a baby is born, so is a mother -- but the natural (and sometimes unsteady) process of transition to motherhood is often silenced by shame or misdiagnosed as postpartum depression. In this quick, informative talk, reproductive psychiatrist Alexandra Sacks breaks down the emotional tug-of-war of....

Midwifery Is Having A Net Positive Impact On Maternal Health

Great article in Forbes on the collaborative care setting we are a part of in the maternal health system.

forbes.com Is midwifery a common way to give birth today? This question was originally answered on Quora by Therese Oneill.

05/29/2019

Its official! She's here. Like any good gestation period, the midwifery team is getting in full swing now with the addition of Rachel Horne, CNM. Happy Wednesday!! Today we celebrate our amazing Womens Health Nurse Practitioner Lynn!! Before she was a Advanced Practice Nurse, she was a bedside nurse in labor and delivery. She brings so much to our practice and we are lucky to have her 20 years experience as part of our team. By her welcoming smile, her amazing knowledge base, and her nurses heart all combined with that cute Southern accent she delights her patients and coworkers. She loves supporting women in their pregnancy, an IUD insertion, and now recently added those first trimester sonograms to her skill set. We are so very lucky to have Lynn serve women alongside us at Loudoun ObGYN and Midwives.
