Our board members have collectively spent many months (even years) in the hospital with their children battling life threatening heart disease. We understand the extreme pressures that such a crisis can place on all areas of life for the child in the battle and all members of their family. Through the difficulties that we have endured so far, we consider ourselves very fortunate compared to most o

Todays spotlight is on sweet Luna Mei-
“Sweet Luna Mei is the youngest of 7 children in our family. Her darling personality has everyone wrapped around her little finger. Even after a 19 hour open heart surgery, all the way across the country in California, her heart is still very broken. After being denied for a heart transplant at multiple centers, the decision was made to bring Luna home on hospice. Since coming home, after spending a year in the hospital, Luna has done so well. She struggles with strokes and seizures from her high pulmonary pressures, but loves the extra snuggles and cuddles that come after these scary episodes. When the future looks uncertain, Luna Mei has taught us that tomorrow is never promised to anyone, and every single day is a precious gift.”

Today’s spot light shines on a very special boy, Thadd Rancourt- A boy who is celebrating his 10th birthday today!
On August 15th, 2021 Thadd received his Hero’s heart through organ donation. After his 3rd and 4th open heart surgeries failed in 2020, Thadd was stuck living in the hospital with chest tubes and requiring continuous IV heart failure medication. Although we were warned that he was an extremely high risk candidate for a heart transplant, we decided that Hope was worth the risk. After waiting on the heart transplant list for 259 days, Thadd finally received his gift of life. His initial recovery was complicated and brutal, and even 6 months later is still underway. Thadd’s story is still being written, but because of his donor family’s selfless gift, Thadd has a future full of Hope!

Today's spotlight goes to our friend Winona! Make sure to read below for an update on Winona and how life is outside of the hospital from her mom.
"Winona is doing great! She came home on July 22nd needing to gain a lot of weight. She was getting 2 lovenox shots a day and taking 4 oral meds. She had a tough time getting used to bottle feeding after being in the hospital so long, we had a lot of very long nights of upset tummies. We were also given recommendations to have her do physical and occupational therapy multiple times a week.
Fast forward to now, she’s gaining weight beautifully, she’s on ZERO medications and she’s almost sleeping through the night! We are continuing PT/OT and are now beginning to feed her solids from her high chair. She also popped 2 bottom teeth!
We still have bad nights here and there but Winnie is a true fighter and has come such a long way in such a short time. We are all so so very proud of her.
Winona loves people, dancing fruit on YouTube, her favorite animal is unicorns 🦄 , and she loves the color red! ❤️"

Today's Heart Warrior Spotlight is on our buddy, Owen. Owen turned 4 this year and is doing great. In 2020, he had his final heart surgery and made it through with out issue. He is now going to preschool 5 days a week and loving every minute of it. He is a great big brother and loves to play with his brother every day. Owen still has daily challenges due to his cerebral palsy, but he greets each day with a smile.

This year for CHD awareness week we have decided to share some very special people we have met along the way. We wanted to give you an update on these brave heart warriors.
For today, we are shining a light on Gloria! Gloria is doing great! Enjoys hanging out with the dogs, watching Sing and Disney movies, and PT with Mandy! She smiles so much every day and is truly blessed!

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. -Matthew 28:6
Wishing you and your family a happy Easter for He is Risen!

Did you know that people with CHDs face a life-long risk of health problems such as issues with growth and eating, developmental delays, difficulty with exercise, heart rhythm problems, heart failure, sudden cardiac arrest or stroke.

CHD’s are a leading cause of birth defect-associated infant illness and death. Infant deaths due to CHD often occur before the baby is 28 days old.
“Sometimes this is the face of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). Grief. Sorrow. Gut wrenching sadness. A face that can only be understood by a parent who has held the weight of their deceased child in their arms. A perfect 7lbs 15oz.” Unfortunately, Addy Hope’s story did not go the way that Jacques and Emily, along with their doctors, had planned. But the Rancourt family clings to HOPE, for they know that He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things will pass away. (Revelation 21:4) And there will be a day where they can be reunited with their Addy Hope in Heaven.

Did you know?!?

Even with improved treatments, many people with a CHD are not cured, even if their heart defect has been repaired. People with a CHD can develop other health problems over time, depending on their specific heart defect, the number of heart defects they have, and the severity of their heart defect. For example, some other health problems that might develop include irregular heart beat (arrhythmias), increased risk of infection in the heart muscle (infective endocarditis), or weakness in the heart (cardiomyopathy). (CDC)

Did you know that there are 40 different types of congenital heart defects. Little is known about the cause of most of them. There is not yet a cure for any of them.

Back to our regularly scheduled CHD Awareness Facts ❤️ CHDs are the most common birth defects. About 1 in 4 babies that are born with a heart defect has a critical CHD (also known as critical congenital heart disease). Babies with a critical CHD need surgery or other procedures in the first year of life.

Huge shoutout to for helping us share the love to the heart families at ♥️ these heart biscuits were the perfect way to celebrate CHD Awareness!
