This weekend I did two farmer's markets. On Saturday, I was in Purcellville and on Sunday, I was at Gilbert's Corner. I sold out both days. That's great, but I have a few wrinkles to iron out of my process. I'm sure with each passing week, it will be smoother, and I won't stress myself out over the little things. Being organized is the most important thing that I can do for myself.

There are two different ways to pick up your pies. You can come to ChefScape in Leesburg Thursday - Friday and pick up by appointment. The address is 1602 Village Market Blvd, SE, Suite 115, Leesburg, VA. I don't have a store front with this kitchen, so you'll have to order in advance, and I'll meet you at the door with your order.
I'll be at farm markets on the weekends. This will be my last weekend at Purcellville Farmer's Market on Saturday 9/7 from 8-11. It's located at 142 E Main Street, Purcellville, VA behind Nostalgia Boutique. Starting 9/14, I will be at Gilbert's Corner from 10 - 3:30 on both Saturday and Sunday. It's located at 39958 Little River Turnpike, Aldie, VA 20105.πππ₯§ππ
I will be selling pies, cinnamon rolls, some bundt cakes, and cookies, brookies, and brownies. You can always order ahead and pick it up there, or just stop by and see what I have available. Bring a chair with you, sit down and visit for a while. I'd love to see you and catch up!
The location of the farmer's markets may change, so keep an eye on Little Apple's page, Instagram and website www.hotapplepie.com.
This post is long overdue. I want to thank you all for supporting me, inspiring me, loving me and checking up on me over the last 16 months when I lost my husband in April of last year. Then soon after that, I lost my lease where my bakery was located for 31 years. It was to new property owners and that was their right to do with that building as they pleased. It stung a little at first, but I was already numb any way. Don't be angry about that because the new opportunities that have presented themselves to me have been greater than I ever could have imagined. I have moved into a new kitchen within a larger kitchen with so many wonderful, talented chefs around me. They have welcomed me and my business with open arms. They are helping me with press releases and making sure that I have everything that I need to survive and be better than ever. I don't know how this will play out, but I'm going to do the best that I can with what I have. I think I am going to be okay! I never could have done this without your help. Thank you! You're the best customers and friends ever! π₯°ππ₯§π
This has been one crazy week! On Tuesday, I moved into my new kitchen. On Wednesday, the inspector came and gave me my long-awaited permit to do business again. He asked me to make him something so he could watch the process. I was hoping that my kitchen was organized enough to pull that off after moving in the day before. He said, "You know what you're doing, you got this". That was a great relief to hear this from him! On Saturday, I did my first farmer's market in Purcellville. I'm pooped! And I love it! This is the best kind of tired. All week long, everyone has been so kind and helpful. The kitchen is a private suite at ChefScape shared kitchens. It's a very small suite, but it's got everything that I need to continue making pies and a few other things. All of the people there welcomed me and made me feel right at home. I'm going to be very happy there.
On Thursday evening, I was accepted into the Purcellville Farmer's Market and I had only one day to prepare for it. I think I did alright considering it was my first market and many of my long-time customers showed up to support me. I love you guys. Thank you! I enlisted some help from neighboring vendors on how to put up my canopy. Not as simple as it looks for one short person to do alone. But I'm sure it will get easier. I will be back at this Purcellville market next Saturday as well. There is a special anniversary event there and hopefully it will be a little cooler. I'm not sure yet about Sunday. I'll probably know by Wednesday if I am going to be at Gilbert's Corner on Sunday. I'm self-employed, but so much of what I do is out of my hands. There is still someone telling me what I can and can't do. I've really been feeling that for the last few months. So, I do the best I can with what I've got and keep moving forward.
So, until next time, have a sweet day! π₯§π
Slight change in plans this week. I won't be at Gilbert's Corner, but I will be at the Purcellville Farmers Market behind Nostalgia Boutique on Saturday, August 3, from 8am - 11am. Located at 142 E Main St, Purcellville, VA 20132. Come on out and visit and get an Apple or Sour Cherry pie and some of our other special treats that you haven't had in a while.
Things were taking so long to get going. But in the last two weeks, it's been a whirl wind of activity. Because I got my kitchen inspected so late in the week, it is too late to get into Gilbert's Corner Market this week. Maybe next week! Go to both Markets if you can. At Gilbert's Corner, there is a new BBQ guy, Big Kyle. He's in the shared kitchen with me and not only does he have that kitchen smelling fantastic, he's a hoot. If you've never tasted his BBQ, go visit him. You won't be sorry. Don't forget about me. Come to Purcellville too.

I am pleased to announce that I have everything that I need to re-launch my business. It will be quite a bit different from the way it was. I am baking out of a shared kitchen with no store front. If you order and pay ahead, you can make an appointment to pick up your order at ChefScape in Leesburg. I will be selling from my website, and from local farmer's markets. I will be at Gilbert's Corner on Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 am - 3:30 pm, starting next weekend (I hope). I will post on our website, Facebook and Instagram pages with weekly updates about where you can find me. After I am comfortable with this new business venture, I may add other days and locations to the farm market lineup. There are so many to choose from!
The new menu is on our website and online store. There are many changes. But, for the past year, that's been the story of my life...many changes. Not everyone is going to be happy with these revisions, but it's how it has to be in order for me to survive. I hope you understand why I had to do this. I've explained the process on the "About Us" page of the website. As for this change, I will embrace it and do the best that I can. There will be other pies and cookies added to the menu in the future, but not right now. For the first time in over a year, I'm very happy and excited about moving forward.
I was wondering if you have an opinion on doilies.
For years I have been putting a paper doilie under my pie pans. I've seen some of you get excited about that and some of you say "there was a doilie? I didn't notice." So, I want to know what you think. I realize it's a silly question, but before I order another box, I want to know if this is important to you. I said it was silly!
I'm still unsure of when I can begin baking again, it shouldn't be much longer. It's taking forever, it seems. While I've been waiting, I've been working hard on this cookbook. Here's a picture of the cover. I have over 50 recipes in this first book. I have so many old and new recipes that they are spilling over into two more cookbooks to be published in the future. This book will include many of the recipes that I won't be making any longer. Now, you can make them at home! This first volume should be ready for sale by October. I will probably offer an ebook as well as a printed copy. Here are a few of the recipes that will be in the cookbook.
Thanksgiving Dinner Pie
Butter Bean Salad
Chocolate Whoopie Pies
Apple Cider Cake Donuts
Spicy Jambalaya Soup
Angel Biscuits
Sausage Gravy
Kay's Spicy Mustard
Pimento Cheese
Also, some cakes, icing, cookies and a few pastries and pies.
I'll let you know when it will be available for presale, and when it will be ready for sale of the printed copies.
I'm one little step closer to making/baking pies again!
And the changes just keep on coming. Bye bye blazer. Hello Mini van. Meet my new pie wagon! What should I name her?
Time for an update!
I have found a new kitchen and I'm waiting for approvals. It was like starting a new business as far as everyone was concerned. What I plan to do is bake out of a shared kitchen, take orders online and sell at farmer's markets. I will have a much smaller more manageable menu and no store front. It has been a slow process, but the plans are finally starting to come together. It will probably still be another month or so before I can begin making pies again. I need to get back to the kitchen, because all of this yard work I've been doing is kicking my butt! I'm sore, tired and bruised. And I'm going to have a fight with whoever is eating the bulbs I've planted.
I do have good news; I am working on my cookbook while I'm home. I hope to have the first book ready by Fall. Since I have deleted a large portion of my menu, I will be including some of the recipes that I was making and no longer able to. I'm sure that one book will not cover everything.
If you have a request for a recipe to be included, please let me know by the end of May. If not, maybe it can get into the second cookbook. I am currently downsizing recipes to a home sized version. I've been testing recipes and making sure that I have all of the measurements correct. This is a challenge for me because I don't always measure. I've been told that I "grandma measure". Meaning that a pinch, a dash, a smidgen and a hand full are part of my previous recipes. This first cookbook will be small and simple so that I can get it out there. My grand ideas of what a cookbook should be is far out of my budget. But, in the end, it's just a list of simple recipes and should be easy to follow.
Thank you for following me and listening as I ramble on. Have a sweet day!

Diced Apple cake. Mmmm. So moist and full of flavor!
Chocolate chip cookies, aka crack cookies
Happy Friday everyone. I don't have any updates on relocating my business right now. I've been working very hard to clean out the Aldie space and trying to organize everything so that I can find it later.
While I've been home, I have been cooking and learning to make dishes for one person. Sometimes it's hard, but very rewarding when I run across an easy recipe that is so tasty that it just has to be shared. White Hot Chocolate! I've never been a huge fan of white chocolate, but this is so worth it that I am going to give you the recipe. I've downsized this to a one serving recipe, so try it.
Heat 1 cup of milk to almost boiling. (I use 1% and it is still rich...but that's what I'm used to). Remove from heat and then add chocolate chips.
1/3 Cup white chocolate chips. I used Ghirardelli. The chips will melt slowly. Don't skimp with cheap chocolate chips. They won't melt right.
1 tsp imitation vanilla extract
That's it! 3 ingredients. I would have posted a picture except that it looks like milk. And I drank it all, twice! The second time, I hand whipped a little fresh cream for the top and sprinkled it with cardamom. Still no picture. A snowy day like today calls for a special treat to warm your body and soul. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Possum pie. Pecan crust with a layer of cheesecake and a layer of chocolate pudding topped with Chantilly cream, chocolate shavings, and more toasted pecans. A great addition to our menu when I reopen.
We will be open on Sunday September 3 from 9:00 - 12:00.
I'll be making apple pies and cinnamon rolls in the morning.
Caramel Apple Cheesecake.
