I said tonight from the stage that while I have a great team around me at work, it is the community around us that make greatness possible.

Loudoun Now Get Out Loudoun is one of the best, most integrity driven news sources in our region and I personally would not have found my stride here if it were not for Susan Styer who helped me get my very first business advertisement placed 22 years ago or Norman Styer for writing a fair and balanced and trusted perspective on our local businesses, politics, happenings, highs, lows and everything in between.

Eyetopia and I could not accomplish anything significant without people like, Avis Renshaw of Mom's Apple Pie Company who was my date tonight and has stood shoulder to shoulder with me in support of small business rights in Leesburg, built countless community campaigns with me and always has my back, Jennifer Montgomery of Loudoun Hunger Relief who fights for the wellbeing of all and tirelessly works to ensure no child goes hungry in Loudoun, and she wears her with flair everywhere she goes, Stilson Greene of Stilson Greene Graphic Design & Illustration for supporting me not only as a client of mine, but by building out my annual marketing plans, creating incredible ads and graphics and literally keeping me on track when I can’t remember what ad goes where and when. Rusty Foster or Bow Tie Strategies the master behind the Tarara Summer Concert Series, who said yes when I need models for my DEI fashion campaign 2021.

Much love to my friend Sonny Swann of Climatic Heating and Cooling, Inc who supports this community with time, care and attention to detail and makes sure we stay cool at work and at home, shout-out to Alice Frazier and team BCT-The Community's Bank winning multiple categories tonight, they are the definition of “my flock” as Sonny likes to call it.

Tales from The Vault:
A client asked me if I was concerned about my business survival since I don't participate in insurance plans.

My answer, "Well, nearly 20 years in with no eye doctor on site, no insurance accepted and a clientele built strictly on referral, I feel pretty confident we are doing something right.

I am an optician because I believe in the importance of good vision. I am an independent optician because I'm unwilling to compromise on quality to save money and I am a non-participating member in the optical insurance world because I am unwilling to compromise on quality in exchange for quantity. If you need to use your insurance in network then I encourage you to do so.

It is expensive to do what we do. Your eye doctor is unlikely to make the investment we make in providing you world-class eyewear and Rx lenses that are made with the best materials, on the best processing equipment, by trained professionals because participating in your insurance makes it nearly impossible for your eye doctor to afford to do what we do at this level. They have to count on volume and a few short cuts to make up the monetary deficit insurance claims create."

She stayed and bought her glasses from us.
