Thank you to Loudoun Medical Reserve Corps, Loudoun County Health Department & Giant for making these clinics so successful. Volunteer Julie from Catoctin tells me she’s volunteering more than 40 hours a week right now because she wants to get our community back to normal. Clinic is open till 7!

It has been one year since Morgan & Garrett Orthodontics and the state of Virginia were mandated to close their doors due to COVID-19, making 2020 one of the toughest years for small businesses. We were fortunate to be able to keep our staff and reopen seven weeks later. We continue to practice numerous protocols to keep our patients and staff safe. Our team has been vaccinated, and Dr. Kelly Morgan, herself, is a vaccinator for the Loudoun Medical Reserve Corps.

COVID-19 cases are on the rise in County and across Northern Virginia. Health officials encourage everyone to assess their individual and family risks as the case counts increase and to consider taking additional precautions if necessary, such as:
➡️ Wearing masks and social distancing if you are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe disease.
➡️ Getting fully vaccinated and boosted, if eligible.
➡️ Getting tested if you are exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms.

County is now offering appointments for children ages 5 to 11 to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
➡We expect that demand for the vaccine for this age group will initially outpace supply and will limit the number of appointments available in the early days of the vaccination effort.
➡As vaccine supplies increase through the month of November, more appointments will open up.

❓ Has the FDA approved Moderna and J&J boosters or not??

The short answer? Not yet. The long answer? Working on it!

Last week, an FDA advisory committee voted in favor of recommending booster doses of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines. But they haven't been *approved* quite yet. Visit https://tinyurl.com/3bwy3hyk to learn more.

DYK? You can get a COVID-19 vaccine and a flu vaccine at the same time. COVID-19 vaccines may also be administered with other vaccines without regard to timing. Previous knowledge with other vaccines has shown that the way our bodies develop an immune response, and possible side effects after getting vaccinated, are generally the same when a vaccine is given alone or given with other vaccines. County is now offering booster doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to certain groups of people as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Loudoun MRC, in conjunction with other MRC units in our region, was activated from 8/17 to 8/25, on short notice, to assist with the Afghan repatriation and refugee efforts at Washington Dulles International Airport. Our primary mission was providing Covid-19 testing and interpretation services.

During these days 95 Loudoun MRC volunteers put in over 921 hours of time in support of this mission. Volunteers worked 3 shifts, 24 hours a day at the airport!

I am incredible proud and thankful for the amazing response we received to our call for assistance and for the willingness of the MRC volunteers to tireless work to assist with this effort.

Loudoun MRC volunteers also remain active with a number of other tasks such as Covid-19 vaccination and testing and back to school events.

We need to be prepared to respond for whatever the future may bring. If you want to be able to help in any health response it is vital that you be part of an organization such as the MRC as, for security reasons, spontaneous unaffiliated volunteers generally can not be used.

For more information or if you would be interested in helping please go to www.loudoun.gov/mrc.

This was sent to me by INOVA and it deserved to be shared.
I want to take a moment to thank everyone for making INOVA's Back to School Event on Saturday a huge success! It’s a true reflection of “ One Team”. Even with such short notice, they were able to get 40 plus volunteers (MRC and others) to help out with this event. A total of 102 children received a back to school physical, caught up on their vaccinations and received their TB screening. This turn-out demonstrates the large need in our community for the work that we do every day.

Incredible work by everyone!!!!!
