Since 2007 and now, su***de in the age group 10-14, has doubled, doubled! Crisis hotlines are receiving calls from 8 years old wanting to die, and are receiving on the average, 1000 calls a week from teens. The video emphasizes social media and "gaming' are contributing factors, yet bullying and lack of peer group acceptance and belonging are the major factors, in addition to a lack of family presence, real communication and connection. I am saddened to hear of this tragic event. I extend my compassion to the families and friends of these Capital Police Officers whose lives were cut short by their immense suffering. We must invest in mental health by providing accessible and affordable resources to all people. We must talk, talk, talk about mental health on all plaforms. We must demand health insurance companies give equal consideration and reimbursement for mental health services as they do physical health. We must write our politicians and demand change and stimulus money for mental health facilities and services. The Teen Mental Health Crisis Deepens - A study with the Center for Disease and Control "found that the proportion of 12 - 17 year olds visiting emergency rooms for mental health reasons rose 31% for most of 2020 as compared to 2019." As the NY Times' article states, the pandemic and the pressure to achieve were the primary factors contributing to the rise in depression, anxiety and stress related disorders. Parents, teachers, coaches and caretakers, we must put the mental health of children and teens first, and school and athletic achievement second. Their lives depend on this.

The good news is I have a healthy brain - and this was a huge relief given I had lyme disease and suffered terribly for a couple of years. Spects also told me what nutrients I need to supplement with in order to keep my brain health and overall health in good shape. 05/24/2021

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and I am sorry to say, as a mental health provider, I have not posted anything on FB to increase awareness and provide mental healtheducation, stories, strategies for coping with a mental health condition or caring for a loved one with a mental illness. Truth be told - it is not because I haven't thought about it - it is because my psychotherapy practice, like nearly every mental health provider in Northern Virginia and beyond, are full with counseling clients, receiving requests for appointments daily and are working more with clients experiencing "complicated mental health conditions". The good news is we are breaking through the mental health stigma - big time, and more people are reaching out for help. The bad news is there is a mental health epidemic in our country and a severe shortage of licensed mental health providers. The CDC reports a signficant rise in people, across all genders, sexual orientations, race, religion, culture, socioeconomic status and location, having anxiety or depression (an increase from 36.4% to 41. 5% ); a 13% increase in a substance abuse disorder; a 11% increase in su***de ideation with young adults, age 18-24 reporting the highest increase in one years time. As the pandemic surged, the silent mental health epidemic was festering. NOW is the time to take care of your mental health; NOW is the time to reach out, connect and talk with loved ones, friends, colleagues and people in your circles. Research study after research study shows REACHING OUT, CONNECTING & TALKING with someone in your circle is a major factor in tempering anxiety and depression and motivating a person to seek counseling. The tip of the evening - If you are feeling down and out, having negative thoughts, feeling anxious and overly worried, engaging in harmful behaviors or intentionally hurting another, contact your primary care physician, call a counselor, contact your county's mental health department, search and read blogs on mental health and strategies for coping with stress, depression and anxiety. You Matter and Help is Out There.

[03/04/21]   “The best way to take care of the future is to take care of the present moment.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

We are all having multiple opportunities to be present in the moment....it is the only place to be in order to manifest that which you want.

[03/01/21]   The past couple of months I have been working 6 days a week vs. my standard 5 days a week. The havoc of the pandemic, social distancing, on line schooling and lack of in person opportunities has significantly affected the mental health of children, tweens, teens, adults, parents and families. It is very sad to see so many people suffering, and I extend my compassion to all of you who are facing mental health challenges. Please reach out for support-the stigma of mental health is finally eroding. In addition to private practice therapists and mental health resources, there is a wealth of resources and information provided by the Loudoun County Health Dept, the LC Public School and non-profits including The Community Foundation and the Ryan Bartel Foundation.

Seek the Path Towards Your Becoming and Live Your Most Authentic Self

“Set your mind and heart in the direction of your longing. Boldly and courageously, go out and seek the path that will help you in your quest.” --Dr. Suzanne Nixon

Life is a series of journeys. At each stage of the journey we are given a choice - follow this path, or that path. The path may be smooth or rocky, wet or dry, treacherous or safe or cloudy or clear. For a while you may walk it alone until at one point you decide it is time to seek a guide, for we all get lost and finding our way back again may be challenging.

That indeed, is the role of a therapist: A professional trained guide to help you along your journey discover you as you navigate life’s ups and downs, and find your truth, happiness, purpose and ultimate fulfillment. As an Integrative Mental Health Professional I have an array of pathways you may choose to find your way: counseling, marriage & couple therapy, family therapy, walk & talk therapy, wellness counseling, energy medicine healing and meditation, along with educational seminars to stimulate your mind and speak to your heart. My expertise as an integrative therapist is based on a holistic philosophy honoring the whole person and the uniqueness of each person for one path is not right for all.

I look forward to walking along side you in your journey and offering my best support to you in your Becoming.
