Early Registration for PRCS preschool programs for the 2025-26 school year begins tomorrow (𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟒)!

Early registration starts 𝐚𝐭 𝟖:𝟑𝟎𝐚𝐦 and is for families currently in PRCS Preschool, PRCS Child Care and all PRCS Cares Families.

General preschool registration for all families begins next week on 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟏 𝐚𝐭 𝟖:𝟑𝟎𝐚𝐦.

You can find information on all nine PRCS preschool locations across Loudoun County, including the Ashburn Recreation and Community Center (Opening late Summer 2025), at loudoun.gov/preschool.

Loudoun County is seeking the public’s participation in the naming of a new county park site following approval by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to initiate the process.
Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) is initiating the public process to officially name the park, which includes opportunities for the community to provide input. For planning purposes, the park has been identified as Dulles South Community Park in the county’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).

𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐭 https://bit.ly/NewCommunityPark2025.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 7, 2025. The name suggestions are scheduled to be reviewed by the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Board in February 2025.

Recommendations for a new name for the park will then be submitted to the Board of Supervisors for consideration. Naming guidelines for Loudoun County parks, sites and facilities are included in the Naming of the Dulles South Community Park Board Initiative presented to the Board of Supervisors December 3, 2024.

𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬
1. Existing County parks, sites and facilities may retain the name which has been historically accepted through common usage.
2. New or existing parks, sites, and facilities may be named:
a. For the neighborhood, community, district, or region in which the park, site or facility is located;
or b. After the primary street which it abuts;
or c. To describe the purpose and function of the facility.
3. In exceptional cases, a new or existing park, site or facility may be named for a person, or for a belief, ideal, concept or historical event of significance to the County, State, nation. In cases where the park, site, or facility is named for an individual, that person must be deceased and must meet one or more of the following criteria:
a. Said person has a significant association with the park, site, or facility;
or b. Said person has contributed significantly to the community or area in which the park, site, or facility is located;
c. Said person has achieved significant recognition historically on the County, State, national, or international level;
or d. Said person has been honored for service with the armed forces of the United States of America.

𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝
The park is a 34.3-acre site located directly behind Lightridge High School in Aldie. This project, which is currently in the design phase, will design and construct a community park that will include passive and active recreation areas. Passive areas may include playgrounds, picnic areas, trails, wooded areas and streams. Active areas may include athletic fields with restrooms and concessions. In addition, the park will include field lighting, fencing, site utilities, parking and site access from the public road.

The second annual International Festival is today (Sunday, February 2)!

The International Festival will be held inside Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center (CMRCC) from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Admission is FREE.

The festival is your passport to journey and explore the diverse cultures of Loudoun County through multicultural performances, local craft vendors and businesses, nonprofit organizations, children’s activities and crafts, food trucks (food for sale, located outside CMRCC), and more!

The Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center is located at 46105 Loudoun Park Lane in Sterling, VA.

Visit loudoun.gov/InternationalFestival for details on scheduled activities, live entertainment, and participating vendors. Admission and parking to the event are free. Regular daily admission fees apply for CMRCC amenities, including the climbing wall, pools, and fitness floor.

Our adventurous Adaptive program is having a blast on their winter vacation in the Poconos!

They took on the mountains for some snow tubing fun on day two, then relaxed in the spa, and had dinner out with some shopping on day three.

Adaptive Recreation allows all individuals to participate in recreational programs, enhancing their quality of life and fostering a community of respect, acceptance, and inclusion. Activities include sports, trips, cooking classes, arts and crafts, and much more!

The Adaptive Recreation adventure has journeyed north to vacation in the Poconos at the Camelback Resort PA!

So far, they have escaped from space, taken the lost river tube ride, and made a splash in the wave pool. Watch out for that giant iguana guys!

The Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center will reopen on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 5:00 a.m. following a power outage at the facility.

The center will remain closed on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, with all evening activities canceled.

Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services will close the Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center (CMRCC) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, due to a power outage.

As a result of the closure, evening activities at CMRCC are canceled.

The recreation center, including the facility’s fitness areas, the competition and leisure pools, spa and gymnasium, are currently closed to the public.

The auxiliary portion of the building will remain open until 6:00 p.m. for the Days Out Camp. Families from the preschool and Days Out Camp, both located in the auxiliary building, were notified of the impact on operations earlier today. The programs continued as scheduled with no changes to dismissal times.

Residents are encouraged to follow Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) or the Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center on Facebook for updates on when the facility will reopen. You can also find updates on the PRCS website at loudoun.gov/prcs.

The Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center is currently closed to the public due to a power outage. The closure is impacting the operations of the facility’s fitness areas, the competition and leisure pools, spa and gymnasium.

Families in the center’s preschool program and Days Out Camp have been notified of the power outage and the programs are currently operating as normal with no expected changes to dismissal times.

Utility crews are working to repair the outage and residents are encouraged to follow Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services or the Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center on Facebook for updates.

We're thrilled to share that our very own Anna Anders has been recognized as among the National Recreation and Park Association's (NRPA) 2025 Top 30 Under 30! This year, the NRPA received over 113 nominations from 27 states, and Anna proudly stood out as one of only two honorees hailing from Virginia.

As the Program Specialist at Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park, Anna has played a crucial role in the park’s success since its opening in 2022. Thanks to her hard work and the dedication of the park's staff, Hanson Park has earned accolades both nationally and regionally, including being named the Best New Facility (Parks, Playgrounds, Blueways, Greenways or Trails) at the 2023 VRPS: Virginia Recreation & Park Society (VRPS) annual conference.

The Loudoun County Art Advisory Committee will present a solo show by Jim Haller titled Collaged, from Monday, February 3 through Friday, February 28, 2025. The artwork will be displayed in Gallery One, located in the lobby of the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street SE in Leesburg.

In Collaged, Haller uses ink stippling to create images of medication, anatomy, hospitals, and nurses to illustrate his insecurities and anxieties regarding his health struggles. The artwork is available for public viewing Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Gallery One exhibits are coordinated by the Loudoun County Art Advisory Committee, appointed by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. The committee is responsible for exhibiting work by Loudoun artists and maintaining and exhibiting the county's permanent art collection. There is still one more week to enjoy the group exhibit by the Waterford Quilters Guild (WQG), titled Winter. The artwork is currently displayed in Gallery One, located in the Loudoun County Government Center lobby, 1 Harrison Street SE in Leesburg.

The exhibit continues through January 31, 2025.

In Winter, the WQG explores the wide array of styles and traditions in quilt making. The artwork is available for public viewing Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
