Several members of Inova’s Advanced Lung Disease Pulmonary Fibrosis team are jumping at the chance to boost awareness as part of Pulmonary Fibrosis Month. In its simplest form, Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) means scarring in the lungs that over time blocks the movement of oxygen into the bloodstream. Low oxygen levels can cause people who have PF to feel short of breath, particularly when walking and exercising. It can be difficult to diagnose but there is a team of experts at Inova who can help.
The prevalence of PF is on the rise, with 50,000 new cases diagnosed annually. Learn more: https://www.inova.org/our-services/inova-lung-services
We are raising awareness in honor of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month. Conservative estimates suggest approximately 6.5 million people age 40 and older have PAD and up to 15 percent of people over age 50 have undiagnosed PAD in the U.S.
Both men and women are affected by PAD; however, African Americans have an increased risk of PAD and Hispanics may have similar to slightly higher rates of PAD compared with non-Hispanic white people.

In recognition of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month, we are sharing information and resources. PAD is a chronic circulatory condition and often a silent health problem. This condition narrows your arteries and reduces blood flow to your limbs, making it difficult to receive enough blood to meet your body’s demand. Because PAD develops slowly over time, it can be hard to determine if what you are experiencing is PAD, normal aging or another health condition.
If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms or at risk for PAD learn more at https://www.inova.org/our-services/inova-heart-and-vascular-institute/conditions-treatments/peripheral-arterial-disease-peripheral-vascular-disease
