What a year it has been for VFW Post 4107 in Lebanon, Missouri.

Despite facing one of the most difficult years in our Post’s history, including the loss of our longtime building and the challenge of relocating our operations, our members refused to quit. Instead, we focused on what matters most: serving veterans, supporting our community, and strengthening our Post.

Because of the hard work and dedication of our members, VFW Post 4107 has been honored with the Department of Missouri All-State Award, recognition in support of the Veterans Service Officer Program, and a Veterans Service Award. These honors recognize a Post’s commitment to veteran assistance, community service, youth programs, membership growth, and support of veterans’ benefits programs.

These awards belong to every member who recruited a new veteran, volunteered at an event, helped a fellow veteran in need, participated in our service projects, attended meetings, and stood by this Post during a time of major transition.

While one chapter of Post 4107 has come to an end with the demolition of our old building, these awards prove that a VFW Post is not its walls is its members. The spirit of Post 4107 remains strong, and our commitment to veterans and the Lebanon community is stronger than ever.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these accomplishments possible. Together, we have shown that even in challenging times, VFW Post 4107 continues to move forward, continues to serve, and continues to make a difference.

No matter where we meet, Post 4107 will always be Veterans Helping Veterans.

Many memories were made within these walls, and countless veterans found friendship, support, and camaraderie here. Today, as the building comes down, we remember the past with gratitude and look toward the future with hope. When one door closes, another opens, and the mission of the VFW continues.

Today marked the end of an era.

For the first time since 1946, VFW Post 4107 closed its doors.

Over the past several weeks, we have made the difficult decision to move forward with demolishing our building due to hazardous conditions. In just a few days, the structure that has stood as a gathering place for generations of veterans will be gone.

Today was the last opportunity for our members to walk those halls.

Some have been coming through those doors for more than 55 years. They shared stories of laughter, friendship, service, and sacrifice. They pointed to places where lifelong memories were made. They remembered the veterans who came before us and the comrades who are no longer here. There were smiles, handshakes, embraces, and more than a few tears.

But as emotional as today was, something important became clear.

The VFW was never the building.

The VFW is the people.

It is the veterans who answered the call to serve in foreign lands. It is the bond forged in war, deployments, hardship, and sacrifice. It is the commitment to continue serving long after the uniform is hung up. It is the family we found through shared experiences that only fellow veterans can truly understand.

The walls may come down, but the mission remains.

The memories made inside that building will never be demolished. They live on in every member, every story told, every flag raised, every funeral honor rendered, every community event supported, and every veteran helped.

As we say goodbye to the old Post home, we also look forward with hope. We are beginning the journey of building a new home for future generations of veterans, a place where new memories will be made, new friendships will be formed, and the legacy of VFW Post 4107 will continue for decades to come.

Tonight, we honor the building that served us faithfully for 80 years.

Tomorrow, we begin building the future.

No matter where we meet, no matter what our building looks like, VFW Post 4107 will remain what it has always been:

A family.

All American. All State. Forever Forward.

VFW Post 4107 would like to extend our sincere thanks to D&S Moving and Knight Auction Service for their generous assistance in helping us relocate our property to storage and transporting three truckloads of items to be auctioned.

We are grateful for their professionalism, hard work, and continued commitment to veterans.

D&S Moving and Knight Auction Service have always been strong supporters of veterans and our community in Laclede County, and we deeply appreciate everything they have done to assist us during this transition.

Comrades,

All items have now been removed from the VFW Post building, with remaining property either placed in storage or sent to auction.

The building will be opened one final time for members to visit on June 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This will be the last opportunity to walk through the Post before demolition preparations begin.

On June 7th, asbestos abatement will commence as part of the demolition process. Once that work begins, no one will be permitted to enter the building.

Demolition of the building is scheduled to begin on June 15th and is expected to be completed within approximately 10 days.

We encourage all members who wish to see the building one last time to attend these open hours on June 6th. Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding as we move forward with this important step in securing the future of our Post.

Respectfully,

Jamie Folsom
