Today is Juneteenth, a federal holiday observed each year on June 19.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed enslaved people that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued.
The day has been celebrated in communities across the country for generations and officially became a U.S. federal holiday in 2021.
Juneteenth is recognized as an opportunity to remember this important moment in American history and to learn more about the events that shaped our nation.

After years of living off-grid in a converted school bus, they say the experience taught them what real partnership looks like. Living in 100 square feet with two cats, no plumbing, and nowhere to hide will either make or break a relationship.
Spoiler alert: They’re still happily together.

Many people in our community may not realize the incredible work happening every day at LADD, the Laclede Association for Developmental Disabilities.
We recently had the opportunity to visit and see firsthand the compassion and sense of community that make this organization so special.
LADD is always looking for volunteers and donations to help continue their mission. Every act of support helps make a difference.
