East Main St. probably around 1947. I was just a toddler and we lived in an apartment over Bowers Electric. The Fire Station, my favorite place to hang out was just across the alley.

Kudos to The Heart of Lebanon for an incredible Halloween event. Families came together, friends met up to see how much their kids had grown, and memories were made! These last couple of years have been hard for everyone. Good job!
I am sure that a lot of work went into this event. Please know, we appreciate every second of that work.
It was a great night!

Tribbett Rich Insurance Group is making their mark on their building at 107-109 E. Main Street with current façade renovations.

Do you ever look at one of our downtown buildings and wonder what its history entailed?

Here is the very early beginnings of this building, as presented in our Historic Courthouse Walking Tour.

The Cragun block was built by S.N. Cragun between 1901 and 1902. He purchased the lot and built a one story brick building.

W.T. Hooton, who had been in the hardware business since 1877 set up his business in 105-107 E. Main Street (now addressed at 107-109 E Main). On October 4, 1904 it was reported that the owner S.N. Cragun let out a contract for a second story on the building on that was to be occupied by WT Hooton's hardware store. The old front would be taken down and a new front of red pressed brick put up. A new warehouse would also be erected on the rear of the lot with cement floor and a carriage elevator connecting the lower and upper floors. Mr. Hooton would occupy the entire building, using the second floor as a carriage repository.

In 1906, Mr. Hooton gifted 1/3 of his interest to his son, Fred on New Years Eve. The business became known at WT Hooton and Son.

In March 1910, WT Hooton sold the business and all his stock to devote his time to the reorganized Lexington Life Insurance company.

In 1945, S.N. Cragun's son Dwight Cragun placed a new façade on the front of the building.

If you would like to learn more about the history of some of our downtown buildings, download the Distrx app on your smart device, find the Heart of Lebanon district and take the walking tour.

Pieces of a Mail Pouch to***co advertisement were uncovered on the side of the building as demolition continues for the Brakeman project.

The Bloch family emigrated to Wheeling, WV from Germany in the 1840’s and opened a dry good store on their Main Street. The enterprising family also ran a small cigar factory on the second floor of the building. After a flood in 1884 destroyed their grocery inventory, Aaron and Samuel Bloch sold their interest in the dry good business and focused on to***co production. The fact that the flood did not destroy their to***co was taken as a sign that to***co was their future. In 1897, they introduced Mail Pouch Chewing To***co, which became their signature product. Mail Pouch advertising was popular advertisement on barns and walls throughout America’s landscape from 1891-1992.
