Sad news. Lizz's beloved mother Joy passed away yesterday, so unfortunately we will not be playing tomorrow at miniBar. Please don't let this dissuade you from enjoying The Utilitarians, White Line Nightmares, and Blood Daubers. Get out there and support.

Little trip down memory lane:
20 years ago or so, Heather, Lizz, and Ben were in a band with Adrian Proctor called Honeybaby. We were playing some weird V100 birthday party for Joey Baggs at Static Bar on 29th and Fairlawn in Topeka, and Joy (73 at the time?) came out to see us play. Drove there solo, 10:00 at night, stayed until at least midnight. At one point a brief fistfight broke out by a pool table we were all standing next to, so we quickly moved her and ourselves out of harm's way. When it was over and everything calmed down she said, "I have to be a greeter at church in the morning! I can't go in there with a black eye!" Amazing.

Then on her 90th birthday, just before Covid and the nursing home, we got her out to The Landing to see Godzillionaire play a late show. Ben's dad was there, too, with a bunch of people from work. We're sure everyone LOVED it lol. It was a beautiful and surreal family night in an unfamiliar but friendly space. We wonder how many other 90-year-old semi-ambulative patrons they've had since. Joy, of course, settled right in and enjoyed herself.

Bless you, Joy. You will always be loved.
