A feminist umbrella organization for promoting le***an and womyn’s community.
Purple is a feminist umbrella organization for activities and initiatives that promote le***an and womyn’s community. We are focused particularly on the Lansing, Michigan area but open to wider participation. We adopt appropriate projects proposed and primarily staffed by others as projects of Purple Inc., consulting with and advising the organizers, and extending to the projects the benefits of our tax-deductible non-profit status and the use of our resources. In this way we foster activities that immediately benefit le***an/womyn’s community and serve as an incubator for promising initiatives that need a boost to start up but may grow and develop into independent entities.

And one last ask on our way out...
We will maintain a mostly decommissioned version of this website online for the next three years, partly as a record of our doings. But most importantly it is a one-stop source for information about the Le***an Legacies Endowment, the sorts of materials in MSU Special Collections it covers, and how to access both the archives and the Visiting Scholars program that will be administering grants under the endowment.
***We need your help, sisters, to let womyn far and wide know about these resources--both the archival materials themselves and the possibility of travel grants.***
To facilitate such efforts, we have prepared a flyer with an overview and links to detailed information. It even has a QR code which will continue to work as long as the site is online!

On our way out, we want to express our appreciation and say goodbye. If you can make it to Lansing on August 26, we'd love to have you join us for this One Last Dance!
Hello, good friends! It's been a minute, but we're back, and we've come to a conclusion. Our conclusion. We will be dissolving Purple at the end of our fiscal year, Aug 31, 2023.
We’ve had a good run:
・We started in 2012 as Michfest Fever, raising money for tickets to Michfest for womyn who couldn’t afford it on their own.
・In 2013 we formed the non-profit, Purple, to continue that project and foster others. We got our 501c3 exemption in 2015.
・After Michfest ended, we served as the fiscal sponsor from late 2016 through early 2018 for the We Want The Land Coalition as they sought their own 501c3 status and commenced the monumental task of buying and maintaining The Land "for women, for girls, forever.”
・Then, in late 2019, we created the Le***an Legacies Endowment at MSU Libraries Special Collections to make the wealth of le***an materials there more accessible, and by last year—as always with your support and help—we had raised the funds needed to make the endowment operational.
At this point, we womyn of Purple feel that our work is nearly done.
We are so grateful for the support of our community throughout. THANK YOU!
There remains one more push to get out the word about the existence of the le***an archives held in MSU Special Collections and the possibility for "scholars," broadly construed, to apply for a travel grant through the Le***an Legacies Endowment to study those materials. For that, we will again need your help; we’ll be posting information for you to please share widely.
It is also our goal to raise whatever funds we can for the endowment as we fold up. The university holds endowment funds as an investment and uses the interest on the funds to issue travel grants under the terms of the endowment, so the larger the endowment, the more grants it can issue and the more accessible to our community the le***an archives can be made.
And locally, in Lansing, we’ll be throwing a party to celebrate. Stay tuned for details soon.

This is the day: GIVE GREEN DAY at MSU (Tues Mar 14). PURPLE WILL MATCH THE FIRST $500 DONATED TO THE LE***AN LEGACIES ENDOWMENT ON MAR 14!
Together we have raised and contributed the threshold $50,000 donation to make the Le***an Legacies Endowment: Amazon Cultural/Political Activism in Second Wave Feminism permanent. As of Michigan State University's Fiscal Year 2023 (July ‘23-June 24), it will be able to provide travel grants for visiting scholars. The larger the endowment, the more money will be available for grants.
