Repost from @marcelanotes
I have MANY emotions right now, but all I want to say is that I’m going to graduate school FOR FREE! I was awarded the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation (@thejkcf) Graduate Award, which will allow me to get a master’s degree in journalism completely debt-free! I’ve already started hearing back from schools and I’m very excited for what’s ahead. But for now, I can’t stop thinking about how being a Cooke scholar has transformed my life. I’m beyond grateful for our Cooke community, especially my educational advisers Mojeje and Imani. Please enjoy these pictures of my first JKCF Scholars Weekend in 2017 💛
We announced 406 semifinalists for the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship yesterday, our scholarship for community college students looking to transfer to a four-year institution.
Today, nearly half of postsecondary students begin their college journey at a two-year institution. Research commissioned by the Foundation found that community college students who transfer to selective institutions have equal to or higher graduation rates as students who enrolled directly from high school or transferred from four-year institutions. Yet, at the nation’s top colleges, only five percent have transferred from a community college. The Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship seeks to increase the number of community college students completing their education at top four-year institutions.

Santiago Potes is the first Latino DACA recipient to win a Rhodes Scholarship and he says it's all because of his elementary school teacher: "She was one of the biggest blessings that I've had in my entire life so far." Potes was an undocumented immigrant from Colombia who entered the US when he was 4 years old. And now, this fall, he will study contemporary East Asia and international politics at Oxford University, with an eye toward working in national security in the United States.

Hear from Executive Director Seppy Basili on the importance of faculty support for community college students looking to transfer to four-year institutions.
