Most lifelong Lancastrians know at least one friend who has moved up here from the south, and brings up the fact every summer that Lancaster gets unexpectedly hot for the season. Not only that, but humid too -- “It’s a sauna out there!” is a phrase we’re all used to hearing.
That’s why we put together this list of indoor places you can take your kids (or just yourself!) when you need a break from the heat, as well as a little entertainment.
Have a safe and fun weekend, and don't forget to check on your elderly neighbors! (They're especially susceptible to the heat.)

Last week we got to hang out with the fine folks of Thistle Finch Distillery and help them bottle their latest batch of Penn Square Vodka, right from their location in downtown Lancaster!
(While this session was for vodka, you might be more familiar with Thistle Finch's signature spirit: rye whiskey, which it offers in several varieties.)
Part of what makes Thistle Finch special is that they source 90% of their grains locally, from Lancaster and Lebanon counties. In addition, they choose to mill their grains very finely (which allows for better conversion of the grain starch into sugars) and -- unlike many other distilleries -- do not separate the grains from the liquid before fermentation, instead allowing them to remain in the mash for the entire process, resulting in a much more flavorful product.
Check out the photos we snapped for a glimpse of the bottling process -- it's always a fun, community-filled time! And you can stay tuned to their page to be notified of the next bottling event.
