Did you know that koi aren’t just one type of fish, but an entire family of varieties, each with its own unique colors, patterns, and symbolism? From the fiery red-and-white Kohaku, to the golden glow of Yamabuki Ogon, to the dramatic contrast of Utsuri, every koi has a story to tell.
🐟 Fun fact: The Japanese began selectively breeding koi in the early 1800s. What started as humble rice farmers admiring colorful carp in their ponds has evolved into a living art form—with over 20 recognized types (like the ones pictured here). Today, koi symbolize perseverance, prosperity, and transformation.
