For anyone with braces you need just 8 minutes. You should brush 2 minutes on the top, 2 minutes on the bottom that's a total of 4 minutes twice a day. Anyone without braces need to brush 1 minute on the top and 1 minute on the bottom for a total of 2 minutes twice a day.

It's best to change your toothbrush every 3-4 months. If you use your brush for much longer than that, the bristles will start to become frayed and worn, and they won't be as effective at clearing away plaque.

The arch wire is what allows the teeth to move. Braces are not tightened, but the arch wire gage gets larger in size throughout treatment. The increase in wire gage makes things feel "tight".
