Rooted: Art + Land is a collaboration between Ryan E Cronin : cronartusa (The Cronin Gallery), Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art (SDMA) , Wallkill Valley Land Trust, and Women's Studio Workshop (WSW) that places site-specific installations at outdoor locations between Rosendale, New Paltz, and Gardiner. The Wallkill Valley Land Trust is acting as a bridge between the artists, organizations and the land, bringing contemporary art into trails and open spaces. Each organization is working with a woman identified artist to present artwork at each location and will be hosting programming throughout the UPSTATE ART WEEKEND 2021 at the different sites in order to engage our visitors and foster conversations around land stewardship and the importance of art in connecting communities. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting collaboration, and also check out WSW's Public Art Mural Grant opportunity- link in the comments below!

Hello friends! This is a process video about how I compose a track with an old piano harp, is in English but now also subtitled in Spanish! ¡Gracias! Thank you!

The galaxy may be big, but no donation is too small. One dollar, five dollars? No amount is too small to make a difference. There's only a few hours left and we are halfway to our goal of raising $10,000 in a single day to fund unrestricted micro-grants for artists.

Because artists have needs beyond time and space--from electric bills to rent, supplies, and more, every dollar you give goes directly to support the needs of an artist! We need your help before midnight tonight! Donate here: https://bit.ly/WSWGivingTuesday2021Donate

This #GivingTuesday we’re raising funds to create unrestricted grants for artists!
One of the most central benefits of an artist’s residency is the gift of time and space: to experiment, to research, to rest, to execute. For 47 years, WSW has been giving artists that gift. However, we understand that the needs of artists are wide-ranging and ever-changing, and a traditional residency experience is not accessible to many.

In that spirit, this Giving Tuesday we are raising money for unrestricted micro-grants! Supporting artists and their livelihoods is more important than ever, and we want to use this opportunity to do that in the simplest way possible: give artists money. From electric bills to rent, supplies, and more, every dollar you give goes directly to support the needs of an artist–beyond time and space.

On November 30th, we’re asking our amazing community to help us raise $10,000 in a single day, twenty percent of which will go to artists in our local community of Ulster County. We need your support! Will you join us? https://bit.ly/WSWGivingTuesday2021Donate

"So many of my best stories start with 'When I was at Women's Studio....' Not only did the Nonprofit Management internship give me a glimpse of how WSW itself works, that perspective has been helpful in navigating arts and other kinds of organizations since. It gave me the freedom and encouragement to explore all the studios WSW has to offer, and try mediums I'd never had the opportunity to try before. A WSW internship is a dense six months, in a good way, and the experience will stick with you! I can close my eyes and be right back standing over the Vandercook, or on the wooded trail outside the studio, or back on the porch for our daily potluck. When you leave WSW, you'll have learned a lot and made some amazing new work, but the biggest rewards will be the stories and experiences that come from being totally immersed in a one-of-a-kind place like WSW. That, and hopefully some lifelong friendships! I'm incredibly fond of everyone I met there, and my fellow interns from my six months at WSW are some of my favorite people to this day." -Chloe Horsma (far right) Nonprofit Management Intern 2016. “One of the most surprising and long lasting benefits of the nonprofit management internship at WSW is in imagining. What do I mean by that? Working in the arts is a wildly ranging career trajectory and up to a dozen working artists are moving through the halls of WSW at any given time. This means that not only did this opportunity allow me to see first hand how a nonprofit at this caliber functions, I was able to glimpse the lives of artists who were like me (in gender, sexuality, interests, background, etc) at many different stages of their careers in a very short period of time. Many of whom I keep in touch with today! WSW gave me invaluable information about the possibilities ahead of me and helped shape the imagining of my future in a way that worked for me. And to be honest, WSW gave me a way more thorough and realistic education about what it takes to be a working artist in the world than undergrad ever could.” -CR Cooper (left) Nonprofit Management Intern 2017. Applications are due November 15th!
