Rare sight of honu (green sea turtles) on Maui flipped on their backs while trying to mate!

Yesterday we went to Ho'okipa to watch the surfing action but the real action turn out to be the with honu. Check out this video we took of two honu wildly mating until it flipped them on their backs!
Turtle Mating Gone Wrong? š¢ Upside Down Honu at Ho'okipa Beach, Hawaii! (4K) Nature isn't always graceful! Captured this incredible (and slightly clumsy) rare sight today at Ho'okipa Beach on Mauiās North Shore. While filming these two...
We went to Kama'ole III to look for whales at sunset yesterday. We saw lots of whales way off in the distance (too far to photograph) but did end up seeing this beautiful sunset!

Today we got mostly whale tails and fins. We saw a couple breaches in the distance but too far to get a decent shot. The peak of the season is just beginning!

We went upcountry earlier this week to Hosmers Grove in Haleakala National Park and found a few beautiful I'iwi right in the parking lot of Hosmers Grove Campground. They are such beautiful birds but are super quick and hard to photograph! This is one of Cathy's favorite places on the island.

The rain cleared up, so we took a little road trip south all the way to Keone o io (La Perouse Bay). We were rewarded with pretty views and a nice rainbow! Here are a few photos from the drive. Aloha from Steve and Cathy!
The whales are definitely here on Maui. I was walking on the beach in Kihei today and saw a mom and calf not that far off shore. Fortunately, my camera was handy and was able to get some video.

In Driftwood Dreams, we captured a rare and serene moment along the West Maui coastline featuring a very special subject. While the uninitiated see a resting animal, experts and enthusiasts will recognize her as R308, a female Hawaiian Monk Seal (āIlio-holo-i-ka-uaua) and a frequent visitor to Mauiās West Side. Born in 2004 or earlier, she has navigated these waters for decades, here finding a well-deserved respite against the bleached skeleton of a weathered tree. The composition strikes a beautiful balance between the rugged, sun-bleached driftwood and the peaceful form of R308, all framed by the vibrant blues of the Pacific.
What is the "Digital Aloha" Edition? At Ibach808, we believe the beauty of Mauiās wildlife is meant to be shared. We want you to carry a piece of the island with you wherever you go.

Living on Maui gives us a front-row seat to world-class water sports. We love photographing it all: traditional surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing.
While they are all fun to shoot, kitesurfing might be the trickiest! The vertical distance between the rider and the kite makes it a real challenge to get them both in the frameāand in focusāat the same time.
To capture the full story, we usually aim for three specific shots: 1ļøā£ The Scene: The whole group and the environment. 2ļøā£ The Rig: The surfer along with their full kite or sail. 3ļøā£ The Action: A tight close-up of the athleteās intensity.
It keeps us on our toes, but we love the results! Which style of photo do you prefer: the wide landscape or the tight action shot? ššø

Our latest release, "Gateway to the Sea," captures a moment at Hāpoko Point that felt almost otherworldly. If you look closely at the first slide, you can see the drama of the rainbow continuing right down into the crashing waves.
In a world full of AI-generated images, we want to remind you: This is real. This is raw Maui nature, captured through our lens, with zero artificial creation.
We want you to enjoy this view in your own space, on your own terms.

Teaching the next generation to respect our wildlife starts now! šŗ As our little one is showing us, it really is this simple: let them rest. Hawaiian Monk Seals donāt come up onto the sand just to sunbathe; they haul out because they are exhausted after hunting in the ocean and need critical sleep to survive. When we get too close, we force them back into the water before they've recovered their energy. Please give these endangered beauties plenty of spaceāstay at least 50 feet away and just walk around them. Letās share the shore so they can thrive.
