Meet Snowball! This sweet girl is about a year old. She is not yet spayed so she can’t go home or out on walks but can be visited with in the run and adopted!
Snowball is nervous - but also curious- and sooo cute. Snowball likely needs patience and training but the resulting bond will be worth it!
Meet Snowball and the other dogs available for adoption at Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter Monday through Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM.

Miss Penelope is a new arrival to the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter. She is a four year-old not-yet-spayed, female Jack Russell mix, and as you can see, she is terrified to be at the shelter.
Penelope cannot go home until she has been altered - but she can still be claimed! You can visit with her in the outside run.
Visit Penelope and the other new canine arrivals at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter Monday - Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM.

There are currently two cats and zero dogs available for adoption at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter.
“Prancess” is a spayed adult female white, tan, and orangish kitty who is friendly and outgoing. She comes right out of her kennel and will circle you for attention. She confidently explored the cat room and had a very friendly meeting with the other kitty through the kennel door.
“Rona” is a tiny female tortie scheduled to be spayed next week. She is very friendly but a little nervous outside of her kennel.
Visit these female felines at Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter, Monday - Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM.

We walked through the shelter today and thought…
“Wait. Where is everybody?”
We checked again.
Still no cats.
Still no dogs.
There are currently no animals available for adoption.
Now—let’s be honest. This may be a moment. A blip.
Maybe even a once in a lifetime occurrence.
But it’s one worth celebrating anyway.
Because this doesn’t happen by accident.
This is what it looks like when a community steps up—
when more animals are already in homes,
when fewer litters are being born unexpectedly,
and when people come together to help animals land safely.
And this moment belongs to all of the animal welfare efforts in this community—
the borough shelter team, rescue partners, veterinarians, volunteers, fosters, and the individuals doing the quiet, often unseen work to make sure animals are cared for.
This is the result of prevention.
This is the result of partnership.
This is the result of people showing up.
The best rescue is the one that never has to happen.
There are still animals in our community who need homes.
We have a few nonprofit rescue organizations and families facing changes in life—moves, health issues, or other circumstances—often need to make the difficult decision to rehome a deeply loved pet.
If you’re thinking about adding an animal to your family, keep your eyes and ears open in the community and on the rescue group pages. Those animals need soft landings too.
And today, we’re going to say this out loud:
This is what success looks like.
And that’s something worth celebrating. 🐾

The little tortoiseshell kitty, Betty, was adopted.
As of Saturday morning there are five cats available for adoption at Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter.
Lemon- a young handsome neutered male orange cat still learning about the world. Playful and feisty and a wee bit nervous in new spaces.
Amiry- a black male cat who wants as much attention as you can give. He is confident.
Newcomer Koneko is an adult spayed female grey cat. She too wanted all the attention.
Mushu is an adult neutered male grey tabby who was outgoing enough to explore and social enough to come running back for attention.
Teeny is an adult spayed female cat. Sometimes cats pick their people - and in this case she picked my friend. My friend was doing nothing to get her attention- she watched him from her kennel while I visited with other cats and beelined to him once she was out. She it small and has the cutest spots on the backs of her ears. This one is difficult to resist!
Meet them all at Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter Monday through Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM

As of last Saturday morning Moon was the only dog available for adoption at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter - which is great news for Moon because she gets all the walks!
Moon was being walked when I visited and like most shelter dogs she is an entirely different dog when she is outside of her kennel. Her tail was up and wagging and she came right to me!
Her walkers tell me she’s a bit of a puller but once they rearranged the leash to have more control they were doing well with her.
Moon is spayed female lab mix - with lab energy and lab affection looking for her forever family!
Come meet Moon and take her for a walk yourself! Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter is open Monday - Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM.

ADOPTED!
Meet Trey! Trey is an adult neutered male cat available for adoption at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter.
Trey is orange-cat confident and just the right amount of sassy, goofy and friendly. He greeted other cats without fanfare - which may imply he’s open to sharing his home with other kitties.
Come visit Trey and the other kitties at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter Monday - Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM.
