Ketchikan Native Tours Experience Ketchikan, Alaska's Native Beauty
04/14/2025
Ketchikan, Alaska, is home to the world's largest collection of unrestored 19th-century totem poles, preserved at the Totem Heritage Center. These historic poles were retrieved in the 1970s from uninhabited Tlingit and Haida village sites, where they had been left to naturally decay. The Totem Heritage Center was established to conserve these original masterpieces, offering insight into the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest. Visitors can explore these authentic totem poles and learn about their significance in Native Alaskan history. > https://tripmemos.com/unique-only-in-alaska-experiences/?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=ma

Meet our 2025 Guidebook Cover Artist: We’re honored to feature “Monsters on Creek Street” by local Indigenous (Tsimshian/Haida/Nimiipuu) artist Savannah LeCornu (Savannah LeCornu) — a piece that reflects the vibrant heart of Ketchikan and the continuing power of Indigenous art.
In Savannah’s words: “Monsters on Creek Street” was created to celebrate both my hometown of Ketchikan and Indigenous peoples. As an artist I often combine modern elements with traditional shapes and the abstract squid in this piece is an example of that. The hope is to create something that invites the audience to rethink their preconceived notions about Indigenous art and to show that we are still here, continuing to create new art.”
You can learn more about Savannah by following her on insta or reading more in our guide!
