Subject: With Gratitude, District 7
Date: November 5, 2025
Dear Friends,
After months of walking neighborhoods, listening deeply, and sharing stories across Kent, Auburn, Federal Way, Algona, Pacific, Milton, and our unincorporated communities, the results are in and I have emailed Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer to concede and thank him for his years of service to District 7.
This campaign was not about chasing a title or a paycheck. It was about showing up, building trust, and making space for voices that too often go unheard. At community events, on doorsteps, while walking, and in living rooms, I met neighbors whose stories moved me, challenged me, and reminded me why local leadership matters. I hope my responses reflected the care and respect I expect from my own elected officials.
Some of the most powerful stories I heard came from Federal Way and our unincorporated communitiesāstories of perseverance, creativity, and quiet leadership. Those stories will forever stay with me. And in whatever capacity my future brings, I hope to keep bringing more of them to light.
Iām especially grateful to my small but mighty team of volunteers who powered this campaign with passion, vigor, and a commitment to running a clean and transparent race.Together, we ran a true nonpartisan campaignāno endorsements from politicians or parties, no money from special interests, no fundraisers, and no negative campaigning. Just a small budget, a big vision, and a deep commitment to the people of District 7. A special thank you to my family for funding much of this campaign and letting me take a chance. I know my husband is now relieved!
In the coming weeks, I will be presenting twice at a conference, exploring new job opportunities, catching up on household tasks, and soaking up time with our grandson. But I will also stay engaged by listening, learning, and continuing to share the stories that connect us.
Thank you for walking alongside me throughout this campaign. I am proud of the campaign we built together, and I am excited for what comes next.
With gratitude and resolve,
- Maya Vengadasalam š§”āļø

Affordable housing is in crisis in Western Washington, which faces some of the highest construction costs in the country. But it is especially felt in South King County, where our communities are facing the impacts of fragmented housing programs and policies. It is critically important that we move beyond these failed approaches. As your King County Councilmember, I pledge to work with partners to:
ā Pursue new cost-effective innovations like manufactured homes, modular construction, and adaptive reuse of underutilized land and buildings.
ā Commit to a proactive regional and centralized approach to zoning reform.
ā Repurpose surplus government/county-owned land for affordable housing development.
ā Encourage new developments that include both affordable and market-rate units through incentives and partnerships.
When we work together, we can create housing that reflects the real needs of our communitiesāhousing for teachers, first responders, caregivers, and working families who deserve to live where they serve.
I hope to earn your vote to bring fresh perspective, leadership, and accountability to our housing policies and move beyond the status quo.
