Here is an easy time and money saving tip for metal jewelry artists and students: I, like many, do not enjoy digging to the bottom of the pickle pot with tongs only to have my work slip out and fall again. Here I took a plastic container and an electric wax pen (but any hot tool will work).Burn holes in the container and place in the pickle pot. Bonus: you are repurposing and recycling plastic!

Little tip for my students
thats super simple to do. I am often filing wire and don’t have patience for the ring clamp or vise. Simply take your jewelers saw and cut out a vertical groove or notch to keep your wire secure when filing. It keeps it from slipping and makes life a little easier.

My first brass hand engraved practice plate is done. I am happy with my progress! I did not design the image but transferred to metal and followed the lines with my graver. Still- no easy feat.

Practice makes better. Here is a practice plate of iris flowers I am working on. I am beginning to get the hang of this. Hand engraving is a very tough thing to learn and many hurdles. I am glad I havent quit (for long anyway) and keep at it. A mentor of mine told me it took him 2 years of practice before he engraved his first rifle.
I wont be doing guns as he also told me not to 😂 but I hope to embellish my work with my own hand engravings.
