The physical therapy team that has helped me get 100% mobility back in my lower back has been hands down the best ever. When I “graduated” from PT last week, one of the employees happened to mention how much she loves Crumbl cookies. I said girl, hold my beer! I asked her a couple of questions and found that she loves all things caramel, whether cakes or cookies or candy. And so as a thank you to the team, these Toffee Caramel Chuchería Cookies were born 🙌🏼 Brown butter cookies with a brown butter buttercream, sprinkled with a mix of Twix, Butterfinger, and Heath Bar.

I tried some things way out of my comfort zone today, and would have only done so for someone I love 🥰 This included using poorly translated recipes from Italian and attempting to get correct measurements from metric, and going with my gut when in doubt. I was definitely stressed, but could not have been more thrilled with my traditional Italian desserts in honor of my friend’s new marriage! Mini Millefoglie (like a deconstructed éclair and what we jokingly called Trefoglie since they were minis), Personal Chocolate Ricotta Cakes, and Old Fashioned Almond Ricotta Cake.

If you never had the opportunity to grab a “Toastie” from The Cycle Cafe in Birmingham, AL before they closed their doors, I’ll go ahead and say your tastebuds missed out! Their delicious breakfast sandwich consisted of a savory Sweet Potato Biscuit, Egg, White Cheddar, Bacon, and the pièce de résistance, Pickled Mustard Seed. All of these flavors created an unbeatable combination and one that I new I had to be able to recreate once they closed their doors for good. We decided to whip up a batch of the Sweet Potato Biscuits for our own breakfast this morning, and for a friend of ours who would have a biscuit with every meal if she could!

Wonder what’s happening at Sweetly Southern during the week? When we aren’t testing out new recipes to introduce to all of you on weekends, we are working all day and doing the family dinner thing at night 🙌🏼 Yes, we love sweet things but we also love healthy things, and more specifically, making healthy things taste amazing! Preparing meals together and sitting down to eat together is something we feel is super important. It’s our time to reconnect after the busyness of the day and make healthy choices together.

Pictured below: we have a lovely Tuscan Chicken dish (to die for), served with an olive oil and garlic sauce, fresh spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and freshly grated Parmesan Reggiano over some shiritaki noodles. We also made a low-sugar Banana Bread to enjoy after since our noodles were “carb-less” 😉

We got to prepare an order for one of my very favorite things: Southern Stuffed Cornbread 🤤 Made the only way Southern cornbread should be made…in a well-seasoned cast-iron skillet 🙌🏼 Nice and crispy on the outside, super moist on the inside, and stuffed full of a sharp cheddar blend, crispy bacon, chives, and our one top secret ingredient 🤫

This cornbread is a lovely complement to any dinner table! You can place orders this week for next weekend delivery 🚚

The Sweetheart Cookie is probably in my top 3 favs of all time! I have been making them for over 20 years and they never get old ❤️ This simple sugar cookie sandwiched with strawberry cream cheese icing is always the Valentine’s Day special around here!
