Aloha friends,
Thank you for being so patient with us as we navigate through this time.
Two weeks ago Jim had an emergency surgery. We are so thankful and feel so blessed that he is here with us today. He’s on a long road to recovery but we wanted to share a little of what is going on with us personally and what that means for Hooked Up Hawaii in the coming weeks.

We are planning to reopen the website with items for sale that are either made or can be made by me. At this time Jim can’t do any soldering and can’t be at the bench right now.
Unfortunately that means that we can’t do any custom orders that require him to do them.
We will continue to have our pieces sold in the storefront of Kūkolu in Kāneohe at 46-003 Alaloa St Unit 108. Current hours are Monday 10-2 pm, Wednesdays 10-3pm, Thursday 10-4pm and every other Saturday. I’m (Kehau ) there on Wednesdays and will be back this week. Please stop in to shop. I’ll be adding new pieces weekly.

We thank you so much for your understanding during this time. As a small business we appreciate each and every one of you for support through prayers, messages, emails, your patience with us, purchasing pieces, shopping at Kūkolu and being loyal customers. I apologize for not giving you an update sooner. I’m the primary caregiver for Jim at this time and he’s in a stable place now so I felt it was time to reopen with these limitations.
We are excited for his healing and anticipate him fully recovering so that we can continue to create beautiful jewelry for you.

The Makana Collection
is truly a gift in so many ways.

In 1994 when Jim started braiding this rope jewelry he was gifting it to friends and family for special occasions like birthdays and weddings.

Growing up as young parents we didn’t have a lot money. So we gave from the heart and continued to gift these handmade pieces.
His Aunty, a local artist, encouraged us to start selling them to make money to help support our family. And it did! It helped us to put our boys through private school and paid for many family vacations.

Our small business slowly began
to evolve from this “gift”.
When we were brainstorming what to name this collection; “Makana” felt like the perfect fit because the word makana (gift) held so much meaning to us through the years and is truly the gift that keeps giving.

We are so grateful that we get to share this with others. We keep this collection close to our hearts so you won’t see this as an ongoing collection but more of seasonal releases and in limited quantities.

We are excited to have our youngest son,
Maoli as our model for this collection
and as an additional creative of the braided technique.
Each piece is named after special people in our family and our lives.
All made by hand with love as a gift to you.
