Steve Cropper's influence in me is subtle, but very powerful. There are a lot of professional guitar players who are genuinely good people, but very few who are even closer to being a humble and down-to-earth as him. It took me a few days to emotionally process his impact on my life before I could post this. So, even though I'm a little late to the party, be assured that this still hits me hard. Even before I learned how to play guitar, I knew who Steve Cropper was, and I understood that he was important to the world of music I wanted desperately to be a part of. The more I learned, the more impressive his contributions came to be in my mind, and in my heart and soul.

Steve was not just a legendary musician, but a legendary human being, as well. His memory will live on, but he will still be missed.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Stephen Lee Cropper, who died peacefully in Nashville today at the age of 84.

Steve was a beloved musician, songwriter, and producer whose extraordinary talent touched
millions of lives around the world. As the legendary guitarist for Booker T. & the M.G.‘s and the architect of the Stax Records sound, he helped create some of the most enduring songs in music history, including “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” “Soul Man,” “Knock on Wood,” and “In the Midnight Hour.” A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Grammy Award winner, and
Songwriters Hall of Fame honoree, Steve’s influence on American music is immeasurable.

While we mourn the loss of a husband, father, and friend, we find comfort knowing that Steve
will live forever through his music. Every note he played, every song he wrote, and every artist
he inspired ensures that his spirit and artistry will continue to move people for generations.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Angel Cropper; his children Andrea and Cameron Cropper, Stevie, and Ashley, along with countless musicians and fans whose lives he transformed through his extraordinary gift.
The family thanks everyone for their love, support, and respect for their privacy during this difficult time.

I'm so saddened by this. When I was about 10 or 11, I was fascinated by the sound of the acoustic guitar, and most of the popular music I had been exposed to was through my mom's easy listening radio preferences, except when I visited my older cousins, who introduced me to The Beatles, The Who, the Rolling Stones, Styx, Queen, Kansas, and many others, including Kiss. The first record I ever owned that wasn't a kid's storybook record, was Kiss Alive II. I remember listening to it over and over, all 4 discs, and it started something in my life that is still going today, because I love the sound of loud electric guitars when they're played well.

Rock Soldiers wasn't just a song title from his solo album. It's how many of us Kiss and Ace Frehley fans think of ourselves. Today, I honor the memory of one of the guitarists who strongly influenced me. All my best goes out to Ace's family and loved ones. 🫂

ATTENTION:
"Ace Frehley, GRAMMY® Award nominated and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted rock guitarist; and iconic founding member of KISS, died today at age 74. Frehley passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey, following a recent fall at his home.
Frehley is survived by his wife Jeanette, daughter Monique, brother Charles, sister Nancy Salvner, nieces Suncere Frehley and Julie Salvner, nephews Sky Frehley and Andrew Salvner, sister-in-law Michelanne and brother-in-law Ron Salvner."

Rest in peace, Spaceman🚀

Yesterday was the end of another epic two-day event here in Richfield, Utah. When I first learned about Rocktober In The Park, it was 10 years ago. We had only lived in Richfield for a couple of years at that point. I went down to the park and I love what I was seeing. I got talking to the organizers, Jesse Smith and Matthew Hart, and when I learned it happened every year and this was the 6th one, I thought, "Since I'm a guitar teacher who loves to listen to and play live music, it would be really silly if I didn't do something to support this event." I didn't have a band at the time to suggest performing, but I figured I could be one of the sponsors listed on all the advertising materials. I was able to get a sponsorship spot on the 7th one, and I've been included in every single one since then.

I have never once regretted it, and I have come to think of Jesse and Matt as friends over the years. They have developed this into an extremely well run event, added Mayhem In The Park as a second annual event (and yes, I am a sponsor for that as well), and they have brought some of the best live music there is to this little town in central Utah. This year's event was just as good as previous years, even if the weather kept the attendance down a little bit. The movie night on Fridays was a fantastic addition a couple of years ago, adding to the immense value this event provides to the public FOR FREE. My sponsorship fee is easily justified by the quality of the Bands and all the work these guys put in so I just have to show up and enjoy the day.

I'm giving a shout out to the amazing bands this year: Reapers of the Sky, Fired Pilots, Cecret Souls, The Flying Coffee Beans, Keep Close, Eyes of Eva, Media queen, and ZamTrip! All of them put on a great show for us, despite the weather challenges.

Special recognition goes to BLACKOUT Entertainment for doing a great job running sound, and to all of this year's sponsors, but especially Intermountain Health Sevier Valley Hospital and Utah Army National Guard for helping to make it happen.

I'm already looking forward to this year's Mayhem In The Park. And who knows? Maybe I'll get a band together that can join the stage one of these years! But I'll always want to be a part of it, no matter where I'm standing.

The last band for this year's event, ZamTrip, is rocking the stage right now! Their set will go for the next hour and a half. Come on down to Rocktober In The Park for some of the best live rock music you can find anywhere, and it's FREE!

Media queen is up next here in the park for Rocktober In The Park Sweet 16!
