In this week's episode, I dove into the book The Omnivore's Dilemma. I really appreciated Michael Pollan's approach to understanding our food system. This is a very very good book, that I highly recommend. It was really hard to recap it in one podcast, I hope I did it justice.

Here's the start to Episode 1 of The Local Beef Podcast
A Ted Talk changed my life. No, seriously. One random evening after work, my wife Julie showed me a video that made me question everything about our comfortable city life. Within months, I'd walked away from my six-figure career, moved our young daughters into a camper, and bought 160 acres in Eastern Oregon. What followed was a wild journey through regenerative ranching, startup failures, and ultimately finding my true purpose. From earwigs in our drinks to hosting 600 people for a solar eclipse to losing, crashing and burning our beef business - this is the messy story of how spreadsheets led to sprinklers, and how failure led to finding my way...

Back in 2015 my wife Julie and I followed our hearts and left our six-figure income in the city to start a ranch in eastern Oregon.
We both had some experience before we took this leap into ranching. I’d grown up watching my grandpa Tom raise cattle and sheep at our ranch, while Julie learned the ropes from her cousin Clint on his family ranch.
For six years, we raised our two young girls by building a life around livestock and the land, we hosted events on our property and sold beef and pastured poultry.
It was an incredible experience, it taught us all a lot about life, but it also opened our eyes to some troubling realities.
First, how badly we've all been misled about where our food comes from. Second, just how difficult it is to operate a farm or ranch while also trying to sell farm products.
That's why throughout this podcast, I'll be introducing you to farming and ranching operations across the US and share ways that we can all support them. We'll explore their journeys, from how they started to where they're headed....
