You can't go wrong kicking off the sunny season with a waterfront celebration named Free Fun Fest, hosted by the Michigan Maritime Museum, 260 Dyckman Ave., in South Haven.

From 11 a.m.–3 p.m. June 6, the museum's exhibits will be open for exploration, while its waterfront campus will be a hub of outdoor activity: a ninja obstacle course, robotics demonstrations, and stations celebrating Great Lakes history and science. In addition, attendees can enjoy dockside tours of the historic tall ship Friends Good Will, boat rides, games, book giveaways, and ice cream and root beer.

If you’ve been considering becoming a member of one of the area’s attractions, this is a good month to do it. If you're a member or become a member of one of seven Southwest Michigan attractions, you can visit them all in June through the Southwest Michigan Cultural Membership Exchange.

The exchange is a collaborative effort of the Air Zoo, Binder Park Zoo, Gilmore Car Museum, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Kalamazoo Nature Center and the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary and W.K. Kellogg Manor House. It gives members of each institution free admission to all the others for the month with their member card and photo ID.
