Jay'Don Kelley, Uniting Equity and Education for a Brighter Tomorrow!

Starting with equity, serving on the KPS Equity Task Force from 2022-2023 for two school years.

As a candidate, I don't only believe it's important to advocate for student voices but also to speak for the those instructing the classroom.

One of the important efforts of addressing a teacher shortage is also taking the steps to retain and support the staff that you have!

Working on the Equity Task Force:

I was given great insight to the learning gap amongst KPS diverse student demographics. Working hand-in-hand on with Norrix's Improvement Committee, it was and still is today my soul mission to advocate to those reading the text books and to those assigning them.

As a school district we embrace and encourage the Kalamazoo Promise. We can do better as a district to put students down the path of utilizing and achieving with their promise scholarship.

I know what it's like to achieve with KPS and I seen what it's like for students to "slip through the cracks." We need to improve and take more proactive measures as a district to fix the disconnect!
