Don’t let the headlines and posts fool you. Human-based communication skills remain essential. As such, we hold steadfast to this rule: “Write fast. Edit slowly.”
Earlier this semester, SV owner Jesef Williams spent time at the University of North Florida with students in Dr. Rachel Riggs Achorn’s public relations campaigns class discussing the value of strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Regardless of occupation and sector, having well-developed soft skills is essential. In an era of robust technology and seemingly omnipresent artificial intelligence, human-based communication will remain paramount and can serve as a differentiator in a competitive marketplace.
During Jesef’s visit, he also shared insight into and stories about his professional background in newspaper journalism, corporate communications and marketing – and how all of those experiences led to the ultimate establishment of Spectacular Vernacular.
We are once again grateful to Dr. Achorn for the invitation and appreciate the students’ spirited engagement. Since Jesef’s visit, they’ve been knee-deep in building a comprehensive public relations campaign for the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation, a Jacksonville Beach-based nonprofit that assists families with children battling cancer. We look forward to seeing their campaign presentation later this month!

Jesef Williams, founder and owner of Spectacular Vernacular, LLC., gave a guest lecture in Dr. Riggs Achorn’s PR Campaigns course on Monday, August 25. He imparted invaluable life lessons from his experiences as a newspaper journalist, a marketing and public relations specialist, and an entrepreneur. His lecture centered on the importance of listening well, emotional intelligence, and soft skills. Students are feeling more prepared to tackle their PR Campaigns course!
