Dave & Angela Yantorno
Chamber Folk - Indie Rock/Americana - www.NotFromWisconsin.com String arrangements swell around somber lyrics, buttressing compact song structures.
Simultaneously nostalgic and inventive, NFW pays tribute to the timeless and complex fabric of American music as we participate in that never-ending process by melding what we appreciate with what we discover as we write. Led by singer-guitarist Dave Yantorno, Not From Wisconsin offers pop music with a serious edge. The band also includes Angela Comprone on violin and vocals, Brett Powell on drums

Hey, friends and fans of Not From Wisconsin!
We have some news to share! After 16 years of playing under the name Not From Wisconsin, we’ve decided the time has come for a change. So, from here forward, we’ll go by Dave and Angela Yantorno. NFW has had an amazing stretch of shows and records. A decade and a half later, we have grown and changed so much, and it feels so personal that the time felt right to reflect that in our name. NFW’s history will live on, on our records and streaming services, but we will play shows and release new material under our new name. And with that, we have a show coming up on September 14th at The Downstairs in Ithaca! You should come.
I’d like to take a moment to thank all of the folks who have traveled through the NFW orbit through the years. Brooks Miner, our keyboard player, left the group in 2023. I’d like to thank Brooks for his time and dedication to the band for the past seven years - we had a good run. Also, and more recently, Bill King, our drummer for the past three years, has decided to put down the sticks and step aside. It was a true pleasure to play with Bill, a legend of the Ithaca music scene. Thank you, Bill, for the time and care you took with our music. Over the years, we’ve had a bass player rotation that rivals Spinal Tap’s list of drummers. Thanks to Mike Costello, Rob Cook, Joey Arcuri, Desmond Bratton, William Larch and Harry Aceto for their time in the group. Special shout out to John Young, our longest-standing bassist since 2016 – we love you, John! Each of these players brought a unique voice to the bass chair; it was cool to have the opportunity to play with you all. Thanks again to all of these wonderful musicians for being a part of Not From Wisconsin.
Our first show as Dave and Angela Yantorno will feature Ashley Ickes on the drum set. We are psyched to share the stage with such a force, and we’re hoping you will come to check out how Ashley’s approach impacts our sound. John Young is still holding down the bass seat, and we’ll be playing songs, you know, and new ones, too. Still, it is the end of an era or the beginning of a new one, depending on how you see the world, I suppose…
We’ll also be up on our Jay Street porch for Ithaca Porchfest this year on September 22. We’ll be sure to let you know more when the details are released.
Now, I’m looking forward to what's next, and I hope you will all join us as Dave and Angela Yantorno with John Young and Ashley Ickes on Saturday, September 14th, at The Downstairs!

Angela and Dave are playing every last Wednesday of the month for a series we’re calling Melancholy Midweek. Come brood the night away with us as we play some of our favorite sad sad songs.
We’ll be inviting a rotating cast of guest artists for each of these nights of intimate music.
