Friday of this week is the deadline for approval of the New York State budget and I am asking Governor Hochul to remove the ban on clean natural gas and other mixed fuels out of the budget.

We all want to protect the environment but we need to work together to protect our residents and our hardworking men and women of labor.

There needs to be input from industry experts, labor leaders and environmentalists to find a path forward that protects our natural resources and our economy.

It is unthinkable that Governor Kathy Hochul and the Democrats in Albany would seek to eliminate natural gas and other mixed-use fuels in this state. As we continue to claw back normalcy in the face of COVID, their proposal will cost New York State thousands of jobs, stall economic growth and continue our reliance on foreign energy sources.

On behalf of the Suffolk County Legislature’s Majority Republican Caucus, we thank Senator Mario R. Mattera and the rest of our New York State Senate Republicans for their efforts to save jobs, protect families and provide alternative energies to the people of New York State.”

Thank you to State Senator Mario Mattera; Builders and Construction Trades Council of Nassau and Suffolk Counties President Matt Aracich; Representative of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Association Mark Valentini; Long Island Builders Institute CEO Mitch Pally; IBEW 1049 Business Manager Pat Guidice; and Plumbers Local 200 representative Danny Grodotzke for coming together in the fight against the all-electric mandate.
Everyone supports environmental protections but any steps toward that goal must also protect our residents and our workers.

This hurried ban on natural gas and other fuels would cause great harm to every New Yorkers and result in the needless loss of jobs while over-taxing our already exhausted electric grid since our current infrastructure will be unable to keep up with demand.

This ill-conceived mandate must be taken out of the state budget and voted on separately with a full discussion with all interested parties.

We would like to congratulate our partner, Mitch Pally, CEO of the Long Island Builders Institute, on his retirement at the end of the year. We look forward to working with you and LIBI through the rest of your tenure and wish you all the best in your retirement.
Today's Newsday Opinion Essay from our executive director Kyle Strober and Long Island Builders Institute CEO Mitchell Pally. "Good Cause Eviction" will negatively impact our region's economy and hinder multifamily & affordable housing development, something Long Island is in desperate need of.

Last week, Jim Coughlan was installed as the Long Island Builders Institute (LIBI) chairman at the General Membership Dinner. Congratulations to all the new board members, and good luck to Steven Krieger, the new LIBI President. Thank you to the political officials who came out and spoke about the importance of this incredible organization. Finally, we would like to offer a warm welcome to the 11 new members installed that evening.

Thank you https://dartiste.co/photo for the wonderful photos of the evening.
Last night, the Long Island Builders Institute held their annual 2022 installation of officers dinner. I was honored to be a special guest of the organization along with Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin, Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, and other colleagues in government. LIBI is a fantastic organization of building industry professionals who are dedicated to making Long Island a better place to live and work, and I am proud to support their amazing work.
As reported in today's Newsday, we believe incentives, not mandates, work best and do not support the current ADU proposal in the current construct. Regardless, Governor Kathy Hochul has put LI's need for multifamily housing options at the forefront. That is a discussion we welcome and look to continue.

Had a great time at an event hosted by Kristen Reynolds of Discover Long Island. Also great to catch up with CEO of Long Island Builders Institute Mitch Pally to discuss ways the Town of North Hempstead can support efforts to continue to spur economic development and impact amongst our downtowns, including areas like Port Washington and Great Neck.

Considering the current environment, pausing anti-economic development legislation is in New York's best interest. We need all the tools to encourage the construction of more multi-family housing and retain/attract new businesses.

It is critical that New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance assist small landlords who depend on rent to pay their mortgage, insurance & taxes. This Sunday, the letters in Newsday's Opinion section exemplified their struggle w/ NYS eviction moratoriums & rental assistance programs.
