WIM is a UCSB organization focused on empowering and preparing students for a successful career in the diverse media industry. WIM meets Tuesdays from 4-5 at SSMS 2303.

ANNOUNCING OUR LEADING LADY: JANET YANG ⭐️🍿🎬
Janet Yang is an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Hollywood producer and the former President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. A trailblazer in the industry, she has built an influential career producing globally recognized films and fostering cross-cultural storytelling.
She first rose to prominence through her collaboration with Steven Spielberg on Empire of the Sun, followed by a partnership with Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone. Her work includes The Joy Luck Club and The People vs. Larry Flynt, both critically acclaimed projects that highlight her ability to bring powerful, diverse stories to the screen.
Yang has been featured in The New York Times, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Bloomberg, Variety, South China Morning Post, as well as on numerous television and radio shows across the US and Asia.
Her more recent projects include the Academy Award-nominated animated film Over the Moon, inspired by the Chinese moon goddess, as well as the Tribeca breakout documentary The Rose: Come Back to Me. Across her career, she has worked with some of the most respected names in film.
Beyond her producing work, Janet is a passionate advocate for global understanding and representation in media. She is a member of the Committee of 100, an advisory board member of Asia Society Southern California, and co-founder of Gold House, an organization uplifting Asian and Pacific Islander leaders across industries. She currently leads Janet Yang Productions, which is developing projects with diverse themes.
Recognized as one of The Hollywood Reporter’s “50 Most Powerful Women in Hollywood,” Janet continues to lead with impact both on and off the screen.
