Came across this excellent piece on relationships which I wanted to share.

“I’m Dating Someone Even Thought I’m Married,”

“I have a confession to make. I’m dating someone even though I’m married.

She’s an incredible girl. She’s beautiful, smart, cunning, strong, and has an immensely strong faith in God. I love to take her out to dinner, movies, local shows, and always tell her how beautiful she is. I can’t remember the last time I was mad at her for longer than five minutes, and her smile always seems to brighten up my day no matter the circumstances.

Sometimes she will visit me at work unannounced, make me an incredible lunch, or even surprise me with something she personally baked. I can’t believe how lucky I am to be dating someone even though I am married. I encourage you to try it and see what it can do for your life.

Oh! Did I mention the woman I am dating is my wife? What did you expect?

Just because you’re married, doesn’t mean your dating life should end.

I need to continue to date my wife even after I marry her. Pursuing my wife shouldn’t stop just because we both said, “I do.” Way too many times do I see relationships stop growing because people stop taking the initiative to pursue one another.

Dating is a time where you get to learn about someone in a special and unique way. Why would you want that to ever stop? It shouldn’t. Those butterflies you got on the first date shouldn’t stop just because the years have passed. Wake up each day and pursue your spouse as if you are still on your first few dates. You will see a drastic change for the better in your relationship.

When it comes to any relationship, communication and the action of constant pursuit is key. Nobody wants to be with someone who doesn’t want to pursue them whole-heartedly.

I encourage you to date your spouse, pursue them whole-heartedly, and understand that dating shouldn’t end just because you said, “I do.”

Toothpaste Peril

What's good for your teeth could be bad for your ticker. When university of California at Davis researchers exposed cardiac cells from mice to triclosan- an antibacterial ingredient in some toothpastes and soaps- the cells stopped contracting properly. One theory is that the chemical may impair the signaling between calcium channels in those cells. Studies have linked triclosan to a disruption of the endocrine systems of rats -- including thyroid function, production of sperm, testosterone and estrogen. The chemical can be found in the urine of 75% of Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The Food and Drug Administration approved use of triclosan as safe and effective for prevention of gingivitis in Colgate Total toothpaste in 1997, and that hasn't changed. However, more research is needed to determine if this poses any risk to people.
Other oral care products that contains triclosan are Breeze™ Triclosan Mouthwash and the Reach® Antibacterial Toothbrush. From what I found online, triclosan is used in a variety of common household products, including soaps, dish detergents, deodorants, and hand sanitizers. Triclosan also appears to be an ingredient of Microban which has been incorporated into plastics and clothes to control odor and preserve "freshness”. Do we really need it also in our toothpaste?

Thank you for your feedback. There is no real professional consensus on whether one should floss before or after brushing. The key is to floss daily. Personally, I agree with those whoi floss first, as Jeff put it...Who wants to dump debris into an already clean mouth. Something that occurred to me when I tried flossing after is I landed up washing/drying my hands twice since I couldn’t hold the floss with wet hands and had to wash/dry again afterwards

02/20/2013

Hopefully you all floss daily but was wondering.....Do you floss before or after brushing your teeth and why?

I am sure you have see the ads running for inexpensive dental implants and since we do implants here in our office, it was perplexing how the Newport Smile Center could provide implants at such a low cost. We had one of their patients who had implants placed visit with our associate Dr Geach who didn’t recognize the implant brand. Only after some investigating did we find out that the implants were a knock off of a reputable brand manufactured in a local machine shop!! Watch the video and please extremely cautious when your health is concerned. Sometime trying to save $$ isn’t worth your health and well being especially when it comes to anything surgical

ONE FOOD TO EAT EACH DAY
An apple a day really does keep the doctor away, according to a new study in the Journal of Functional Foods.Researchers had a small group of 16 people eat either an actual apple, capsules packed with the same amount of polyphenols (plant compounds) in apples, or a placebo every day for 4 weeks.
The results? Those who followed the old adage lowered their blood levels of oxidized LDL—“bad” cholesterol linked to hardening of the arteries and cardiovascular disease—by 40 percent. Those who popped the capsules saw a decrease too—but not as dramatic. Researchers suspect that our bodies absorb polyphenols more effectively when they’re in foods.
In addition to protecting your ticker, an apple a day also reduces swelling of all kinds, thanks to quercetin, a flavonoid also found in the skin of red onions. Quercetin reduces the risk of allergies, heart attack, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and prostate and lung cancers. If given the choice, opt for Red Delicious. They contain the most inflammation-fighting antioxidants

SCARY STATS
One out of every two American adults aged 30 and over has periodontal(gum) disease, according to recent findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In adults 65 and older, prevalence rates increase to 70.1 percent. This study is published in the Journal of Dental Research.
Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the gum tissue and bone supporting the teeth. If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss. Research has also shown that periodontal disease is associated with other chronic inflammatory diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Having your teeth cleaned and checked for Periodontal Disease regularly is important not only for your dental health but your general well being as well.

SPORTS DRINKS
A steady increase in the consumption of sports drinks and energy drinks is causing irreversible damage to teeth, according to the Academy of General Dentistry.
“Young adults consume these drinks assuming that they will improve their sports performance and energy levels, and that they are ‘better’ for them than soda,” Most of these patients are shocked to learn that these drinks are essentially bathing their teeth in acid.
The high acidity of the drinks erodes tooth enamel, the glossy outer layer of the tooth. Without the full protection of the enamel, teeth become overly sensitive, prone to cavities and more likely to decay.

CNN reported this weekend that approx 3.5 million baby boomers(born 1946 to 1964) are infected with Hepatitis C and don’t know. Although there are vaccines for Hepatitis A and B, there is no vaccine for Hepatitis C. There is however, effective treatment available. Those at higher risk are those that received a blood transfusion prior to 1992, tattoos and street drugs with a contaminated needle. Since most people who are infected have no symptoms, being tested when you have your next blood test would be prudent.

STEEP, THEN REAP
Here’s some news that’s easy to swallow: Isaraeli researchers who reviewed 18 studies report that green tea may fight cavities, bad breath, and oral cancer. According to the findings, published in the Archives of Oral Biology, green teas benefits boil down to its powerful polyphenols. Its recommended to drink up to three 8-ounces brewed cups a day.

You Call This Clean?
Toothbrush
A 2011 study in Microscopy Research and Technique found that nearly half of never-before-used toothbrushes were tainted with bacteria. It gets worse when you put the bristles to work. “Your mouth contains more than 500 different types of bacteria,” Tierno says. And if you leave you brush sitting out it can collect fecal bacteria. “Unless you have a low flow toilet, aerosolized droplets splatter when you flush. They can go pretty far—up to 20 feet.” Yum! Stay Clean regularly run your toothbrush through a clean dishwasher, using standard dish detergent. A 2011 study in the American Journal of Dentistry found that this method eradicated nearly all disease-causing bacteria. Another option is to soak your brush in a mouth wash that contains cetylpyridinium chloride, such as Crest Pro-Health Complete Rinse, for 20 minutes; doing this can also beat bacteria, the study found. To avoid flying feces, Tierno says, simply store your toothbrush in a stored cabinet.

FLOSS FIGHTS CANCER
Floss can help you escape stomach cancer. New York University researchers found that people with precancerous gastric lesions were nearly three times as likely to report that they flossed infrequently as people who didn’t have the lesions. Study author Yu Chen, Ph.D., M.P.H., explains that if you don’t maintain good oral hygiene, bacteria may build up in your mouth and eventually migrate to your stomach, where they can trigger cancer-causing inflammation.

Awesome review from Sumona. Thanks so much!!!

Excellent, Honest and Compassionate Service by Dr. Suzman and Staff-- I wanted to express my gratitude towards Dr. Suzman and his wonderful staff, including Yesenia, Staci, Fei and Jennifer--with whom I interacted on the day of my appointment. I got to also speak to Jennifer on phone prior to that, and she was very kind and helpful, as well. All of them are so genuinely warm, compassionate, personable and friendly, believe me, this is something that cannot be feigned, really: Sincerity is either there, or isn't. I appreciate how each patient is given honesty, intelligence, dignity and grace. Each one of them cares about us in a beautiful, human level. I can't tell you how refreshing that is. One of the reasons I came to Dr. Suzman was because I was a bit fed up of the dishonesty and quick money-making tactics of other dentists here. Thankfully, I have pretty good instincts, so I never fell for it. However, still observed it keenly. I like to know the truth upon which I can make more informed decisions, if needed. It is really interesting how I sort of stumbled across Dr. Suzman's website. I inadvertantly clicked on it while doing google research for good, honest dentists in the area. Once I read his blog about how he and his staff are honest with his/their patients, only communicating what is genuinely needed. It was written with such sincerity and I really felt a very positive, good vibe from the website itself. Once I met them all, I am glad my intuition proved more than correct. In the long run, I respect any dentist, doctor, or any business/organization for that matter, that embraces integrity. Where there is truth and integrity, there is always authentic success (not to mention-- good karma, an added bonus:). Thank you so much for your excellent services. Keep it up.~~Sumona:)

Rewrite Your DNA
When scientists compared the DNA of active and inactive people, they found a curious difference: Fit folks had longer telomeres—bundles of DNA code that cap your chromosomes. Long telomeres protect you from potentially dangerous DNA mutations, and they naturally shorten as you age. The research, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, indicated that active individuals were biologically 10 years younger than their couch-bound counterparts.

Hi, I thought I’s share some highlight of an article I read on Men’s Health………..
Is Gluten making us Fat?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye, as well as in many common food additives. It's what gives dough its elasticity and baked goods their satisfying chewiness. Sales of gluten-free products grew about 30 percent over the last 4 yrs, and will hit $3.9 billion by next year. Eating foods that contain gluten for those with celiac disease(an autoimmune disorder)— can lead to damage to the small intestine, poor nutrient absorption, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, anemia, and fatigue. Celiac disease is surprisingly common, affecting about one in every 133 people. There is no cure for celiac disease but only manage the condition by sticking to a gluten-free diet for the rest of your life.

Even if you don't have celiac disease, a rising percentage of people in the United States consider themselves "gluten-sensitive." These people may have a food intolerance or experience many celiac-type symptoms after consuming foods that contain gluten. Some may have a form of wheat allergy. If you think you may have symptoms of a gluten intolerance, ask your doctor about scheduling a blood test to find out for sure

Some think gluten encourages weight gain and also claim to feel more energetic when they don't consume it. Their opinion is that humans didn't evolve with the ability to digest certain domesticated grains containing gluten, and that avoiding gluten leads to more energy, better absorption of nutrients, and loss of excess weight. Some also feel they perform better athletically and claim to not feel as fatigued and recover more rapidly after exercise. "There is no strong scientific evidence to support the assertion that avoiding gluten leads to benefits for the general population," says Tricia Thompson, M.S., R.D., author of The Gluten-Free Nutrition Guide

Still, cutting out gluten can lead to weight loss—but not for the reason gluten-free advocates think. A strict gluten-free diet forces you to stay away from some refined carbohydrates that can lead to weight gain. That’s where the weight-loss secret lies. Gluten is found in many of the familiar weight-gain culprits: pizza, beer, burgers, pancakes. Eating too many refined carbohydrates is what expands your waistline. Commit to staying gluten-free and your food choices can become a snapshot of healthy eating—fruits, vegetables, brown rice, seeds and nuts, along with meat, fish, eggs, and milk products. Avoiding gluten also means you're likely to adopt other whole grains and flours that lack gluten, such as buckwheat, quinoa, millet, teff, sorghum, and wild rice (which is not related to white rice). These aren't necessarily healthier options than gluten-rich wheat, barley, or rye, but consuming a wider range of grains gives you even more nutritional variety in your diet.

Ironically, the boom in gluten-free products isn't necessarily helpful to those looking to lose weight. Healthy-sounding gluten-free items often contain just as many calories as the original. People might overindulge in gluten-free options because they may seem like "safe" foods. So even if you stick to a gluten-free diet, it can actually lead to weight gain. Mindful eating is the key.Even if you don't need to avoid gluten, it's a good idea to explore the world of gluten-free grains. All of them are rich in belly-filling fiber, and each offers unique benefits. Here are some to consider trying….

Quinoa: Once an energy booster for Inca warriors, this superfood of the Andes provides complete protein, with all nine essential amino acids. It's also low on the glycemic index, so it won't spike your blood sugar.
Buckwheat: Buckwheat is rich in rutin, a flavonoid that has potent antioxidant properties. It's also rich in heart-healthy magnesium.
Amaranth: A grain the size of a poppy seed, amaranth has more protein than wheat and twice that of white rice. Initial studies in rodents suggest that amaranth's high protein content can help lower cholesterol.
