Imagine looking over at your crying little one only to see a bluish-purple lump on their gums. This might sound very scary, but eruption hematomas (or eruptions cysts) are relatively common. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Eruption cysts are a type of fluid filled sac that forms on the top of a tooth that is coming through. The cysts are often blue, raised, able to be compressed and oval shaped.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
While definitely scary looking, most eruption cysts don’t require special treatment. Although originally from Arizona, Dr. Jackie received her DDS with honors from UCLA School of Dentistry. She then completed her pediatric specialty training at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. While she loved the mountains of Utah, she is very excited to be back in warm southern California with her family. When she is not providing dental care, Dr. Jackie is spending time with her husband, 1 year old son, Luke, and golden retriever, Chief. She loves skiing, yoga, attending sporting events, watching movies, and trips to Disneyland. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My little one has a cavity, now what!⠀
When it comes to baby teeth and cavities there are many ways to go about treating them. The decision on what to do will be based on many factors. As pediatric dentists we consider the child’s ability to cooperate, location of the cavity, size of the cavity, number of cavities, amongst many other things. ⠀

This little three-year-old was an amazing little helper and allowed us to fix her teeth. On the top you can see one of her front teeth was quite broken down requiring a crown. The entire process took us around 30 mins and both patient and Mom left happy! ⠀

Today we had our office Christmas party. This year we did a masked gift exchange. Definitely a little different, but we still had a blast! Many laughs were had and a TikTok was made (check our story for a laugh). ⁣
