Meet Dr Dholakiya
Dr. Payal Dholakiya grew up in Southern California and completed her BS and DDS from the University of Southern California in 2006 and 2010, respectively. Dr. Dholakiya practiced general dentistry for two years, and it was during this time that she discovered her passion for root canals. The part of dentistry that Dr. Dholakiya found most rewarding was being able to alleviate her patients’ pain. She then went on to complete her endodontic training at Columbia University in New York City . At Columbia, Dr. Dholakiya received an extensive education in clinical and didactic courses, which has allowed her to confidently treat even the most complex cases. Dr. Dholakiya works hard to not only provide the best endodontic treatment to her patients, but uses her experience as a general dentist to help her patient’s make the best decisions regarding their treatment plans. Outside the professional realm, Dr. Dholakiya enjoys a variety of activities. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, cooking and hiking.
It's way back Wednesday! This is us enjoying our holiday dinner at The Winery in Newport.
Endodontic therapy or root canal therapy is a sequence of treatment for the infected pulp of a tooth which results in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion.

Dental abscess happens when the tissues surrounding the affected tooth gets infected. During this process, pus also forms and accumulates in the area. This pus pocket is known as the dental abscess and is characterized as having painful swelling and redness over the affected area.
Dental caries are classified into 6 categories. In the first class, cavities are characterized as pit or fissure formations in the molars and incisors. In the second class, cavities occur in the premolars and molars. Classes 3 and 4 are characterized by cavities in the proximal surfaces of the canines and incisors. Classes 5 and 6 involve the facial surfaces and anterior and posterior teeth.
Did you know that people suffering from dental abscess can also incur fever as well as redness of their cheeks? In addition, there may be swelling and redness in the gum tissues that surround the affected tooth. The abscess, or pus-filled cavity, may seem hard and hot to the touch, as well.
Having a root canal issue can be a painful condition. This happens when the affected tooth's pulp or nerve becomes damaged due to bacteria breaking down the tissues in or around the chamber or cavity. Its symptoms usually include pus-filled pockets and foul-smelling odor. To remedy this, you need to undergo a root canal treatment.
Baby's upper front teeth are usually the first ones to be damaged in Baby Bottle tooth decay. First signs of this condition are the chalky white spots appearing on baby's teeth right after feeding on milk, juice and other sweetened drinks. As tooth decay worsens, the damage to the front teeth becomes apparent.
Your mouth guard is essential for keeping your mouth protected while playing sports. Thus, it is important to keep it in good condition. For starters, you need to clean it after every use. Brush it with toothpaste or wash it with soap and water. But never put it in hot water.
Protection should be a number-one concern for sportsmen since trauma brought about by sports-related collisions or injuries can cause oral health issues, which include root canal problems. Accordingly, wearing mouth pieces or guards is highly advisable.
Endodontists are the dental professionals who perform root canal treatment. Using small files called broaches, endodontists clean the whole root canal space in the decayed tooth to clear damaged tissues and bacteria. Thereafter, they use water to flush out the debris.
Your dental filling is your defense against infection of the dental pulp and nerve. Once it breaks down, your defense becomes penetrable by forces that can trigger tooth damage or decay, which can lead to abscessed tooth development. Prevent abscess formation and have your dental filling checked regularly by your endodontist.
Root canal therapy is a procedure that aims to repair or save a badly decayed or infected tooth. This treatment method involves the removal of the pulp and nerve as well as cleaning the insides of the tooth. Without this, the tissues in and around the affected tooth will become infected.
The present generation has a lot to be thankful for. Fluoride is among them. Experts say fluoride toothpaste and fluoridated water have helped reduce the number of dental cavities, saying it is no longer prevalent as in the preceding years, including the 1980s.
