I'd like to share a rather unusual and free resource for promoting positive childhood experiences and preventing adverse childhood experiences...parenting norms bumper stickers! Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo, CA nonprofit, produces parenting norms bumper stickers and makes them available at no cost to schools, businesses, organizations, clinics, and individuals. There are fifty-one in a set and each bumper sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way to educate everyone about parenting. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

Sets of the stickers can be put in holders and placed on counters and tables so folks can select one or more for their cars. Visit www.advancingparenting.org to request this free resource. Use a computer...our website is not optimized for phones. Please share.
Every person and organization in a community can participate in the prevention of child abuse by either putting one of the fifty-one Advancing Parenting parenting tips bumper stickers on their car or by making the stickers available to the public. Offices, agencies, businesses, and organizations can put sets of the stickers in holders and place them on tables or counters so folks can choose one or more for their cars. Parenting messages on vehicles are a unique and powerful way to educate everyone about parenting. Visit www.advancingparenting.org. Please share. ūüėä

Unfortunately the attorney for Mr. Chris Crews has notified me and the Exchange Club of Irondale by letter 3 times that we could not use the words WHISTLE STOP FESTIVAL. This would cause an infringement action against me and the Exchange Club of Irondale (Law Suite). They have an Alabama Service Mark and Trade Name Registration #113-560 and #113561 filed with the AL Secretary of State in 2013.

We believe that there are other remedies available to us but It would take too much time and money before 9-29-2018 Irondale Whistle Stop Festival. We do feel that if it went to court that we would win.

As a result The Exchange Club of Irondale Foundation is changing the name of this year’s festival on all our materials to CELEBRATE IRONDALE (toot toot).

All previous application forms names and checks will be honored. Please see new forms attached.

Sorry about the confusion, but this is what happens in our litigious world today.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
THANKS to all those who volunteered to make ‚ÄúChristmas in Irondale‚ÄĚ a huge success. We were able to help 40 families with 69 children. The families received 2 to 3 boxes of dry goods (depending on size of the family), a ham, fruit, rolls, basic food for a family meal and $25 coupons for clothing at Lovelady Thrift store. All the families received several bags of toys depending on how many children, their ages and sex in the family. We estimate the value per family on average to be around $250 to $300. I
In addition, we were able to assist 8 families of students in Irondale schools whose homes burned this Xmas season with $50 of clothing coupons to Lovelady Thrift Stores.
Our program is based upon individual referrals of recipients, not requests, so that we can be fairly assured of a family’s need.
Thanks to those who had donation boxes throughout the community: Irondale City Hall, Library, Fire Station #1, Irondale Senior Activities Center, WeatherTech Distributing Co., Jefferson Christian Academy, St. Francis Xavier School, and several of the Jefferson County Schools.
Thanks to the twenty-two (hands on volunteers) needed to sort and prepare for distribution all the items gifted.
More thanks are needed to be given to all those who have contributed financially to this and past years to make this effort a success. They will be recognized individually.

Following are some pictures of our effort:

Serving in Unity with those seeking better conditions, better understandings, and greater opportunities for all.

We with the Exchange Club of Irondale are terribly sorry to have to CANCEL the ‚ÄúCandidate Forum‚ÄĚ set for August 13, 2020. The Exchange Club of Irondale has sponsored many of the past forums for city elections. We were a little late getting a site arranged do to turn downs by the Church at Grants Mill, Shades Valley high football field and Beacon Square, all of which took time. We then talked with the Mayor about his participation on the viewing stand across for Irondale Caf√© and he accepted on 7/29/2020. I then talked with Frank Pennington about the of use ball fields or the viewing stand across from Irondale Caf√©. All seemed to be in order, so we sent out the notices of the ‚ÄúCandidate Forum‚ÄĚ. I tried to reach the police dept Thursday thru Monday leaving messages. I finally called the dispatcher Monday to find out who to call because our chief retired with party on Friday and Lt. Wiggins was off Friday. Sargent Kellogg answered, and I explained that we would need the street in front of Irondale Caf√© blocked off for seating. He indicated that I would need to get written permission from the Mayor or a permit for special events signed by City Clerk, Fire Chief and Police Chief. Frank then called me and said there might be a problem with covid-19 and city property. I immediately called the Mayor and asked him if he was still on board. He said he would have to get back to me. Late Wednesday afternoon the Mayor called and said that he thought that the train viewing stand was private property but that he was mistaken. In the meantime, we had sent out notices and called all the candidates about the event. Today 8-5-2020 the Mayor called me and said that use of city property was not available due to covid-19. I have talked to several councilmen and the past City Clerk who were unaware of any action taken by the council in this matter.
We apologize for any inconvenience we have caused the citizens of Irondale.
