Since we’ll all be cooking our at-home feasts tomorrow, I want to share my thanks today. I’m very grateful for everyone I’ve been able to meet and practice with this year.

In spite of unprecedented societal times, yoga has allowed us to come together (while distanced!) to better ourselves.

I’m grateful for all of you, my amazing certification at Muddy Feet Yoga and the motivation to ••keep going.••

Hot 26 Class Description:
Slow and steady wins the race! We’ve cranked the heat for this focused, alignment-heavy class featuring the same 26 poses. We are creatures of habit, and sometimes we want a little routine in our yoga sequence! Each pose is held for approximately one minute, giving you time to not only express the pose, but reflect on its purpose and your body’s and mind’s reaction to it. No flow means short rests in between poses and plenty of time to get and stay centered. The ritual is ancient and the result staggering. If you need to learn calm and you want a stronger yet more flexible body and mind, this class is for you.

In this training you'll learn the alignment, purpose, and goals of each of the 26 poses, the cues to help your students get the most out of them, and how to communicate the growth and transformation that is Muddy Feet Yoga's teacher training signature. All of this will occur in our safe, nurturing, non-competitive, nonjudgmental environment that so many have come to love and count on. After being introduced to the practice of acroyoga in 2014, Nikki has gone on to attend Yoga Teacher Training (200hr, Indigo Wellness), Thai Bodywork Training (200hr, Blue Lotus Thai Healing), and is in the process of earning AcroYoga Teaching Certification through AcroYoga International. Building from a foundation as a competitive stunt cheerleader and modern dancer, AcroYoga has become her number one passion.

Both have attended Chicago AcroYogaFest and AcroYoga
International Iowa Elemental Immersion, as well as classes in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Chicago.

Keep being your amazing, dedicated, accepting, and loving selves. 💚 🧡 Read on for some tips and tricks for Devoted Warrior (Humble Warrior, Baddha Virabhadrasana, Bhakti Virabhadrasana).

Devoted Warrior, like a laid-back cousin to Warriors I, II and III, turns on the parasympathetic nervous system, which is why we feel so calm and clear when we rise back out of it. In addition to strengthening the legs and opening the hips and shoulders, this pose encourages internal awareness and activates the parasympathetic nervous system.

Try it today!

1️⃣From Warrior I, interlace fingers over your low back. Walk your knuckles down your back hamstring, opening your shoulders and chest
2️⃣Dive forward with your torso inside your front knee, allowing your fists to press forward, away from your low back.
3️⃣Sink low, dropping your head perhaps all the way to the floor. Allow your hips to open and your front knee to bend a lot.

Tips:
✅Be sure you start with a very wide stance; scoot your front toes far away from your back ones.
✅Squeeze your shoulder blades together and down toward your back pockets before diving forward to increase mobility in the shoulders
✅Keep your ribs against your front inner thigh. Remember, this pose starts from Warrior I, not Warrior II.
✅Breathe and stay until you feel some peace in the pose. Ahhhhhh. 🙏

Our Story

Muddy Feet Yoga is a registered yoga school based in Iowa City. Our 200 hour programs create empowered teachers who teach crazy-good classes.

On October 1st, 2018 Shala Hot Yoga (formerly Zenergy) became Muddy Feet Yoga as we purchased a studio of our own and planted roots at 1705 S 1st Avenue in Iowa City.
