Good Shepherd Center (GSC) is an Early Childhood Education Licensed Center in Iowa City conveniently located .5 miles from the University of Iowa.

Location: Good Shepherd Early Childhood Education Center, 603 Greenwood Drive, Iowa City, IA 52246

Description: It is the Kitchen Coordinator's responsibility to receive and prepare the meals and snacks using methods that maintain high nutrient levels and meet the Child and Adult Care Food Program Standards.

The Kitchen Coordinator orders and purchases all foods and necessary supplies, as well as keeps records required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). This position involves organization, problem-solving, record keeping, and time management.

Job Requirements:

Must have reliable transportation
Work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for multiple individuals, preferably in a childcare facility
Flexibility as to the hours and schedule of work
A High School diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to pass a background check
Monday - Friday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Rate of Pay: Starting at $13/hour (Commensurate with experience and qualifications)

Day shift
Monday to Friday
Hours: 7 am-3 pm;

Start Date: ASAP

Job Responsibilities: • Create home-style, nutritional meal plans in the boundaries of their school's menu and budget, as well as state and federal requirements. • Prepare meals/snacks for children and staff. Distribute food to the classrooms following appropriate health and safety guidelines, and policies. • Follow the daily menu provided by the Director which incorporates, USDA, licensing and/or health department regulations. • Maintain inventory of food and supplies and order more when needed. • Assists in classrooms as needed as an Assistant Teacher/Floater. • Are caring, compassionate and love what they do Job Requirements: • Work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for multiple individuals, preferably in a childcare facility • An understanding of all current state and local regulations • Flexibility as to the hours and schedule of work • A High School diploma or equivalent • Must be at least 18 years of age • Food handeling certification required • Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

We have recently learned of an insensitive and offensive media post from one of our employees that has been circulating. First and foremost, we, as your parent-led Board of Directors, wanted to reach out to make sure you understand that this ideology is completely contrary to everything Good Shepherd Center stands for and everything it will continue to stand for going forward.

We are among those of you who had an immediate guttural reaction to the sentiment and to the intolerant nature of the post and follow up comments. We are grateful to Rebecca and staff for having the foresight to bring us into the decision making process. Everyone at GSC is family and we, as your board and staff, have taken action to keep our family together and do what is best for our center. This employee has been terminated.

We could not be prouder of our staff who have stood up for each other and already come to us openly with their concerns.

Today’s Friday Spotlight goes to Barbara Goodwin. Barbara first received her CDA® during July of 1989 and has been renewing it ever since. She has been a lead teacher at a child care center in Iowa for 27 years and is very proud of the impact her CDA® Credential has had in her career. “I feel that having my CDA® holds me to a higher standard in my classroom and with my students. I proudly display my certificate in my classroom for all to see. There is no greater joy in the world than working with young children and guiding their young lives,” she explains. Recently, it was Barbara’s first time renewing her CDA® Credential online and she shared that the process went smoothly thanks partially to the help and support of the CDA® community on Facebook. #CDAcouncil #earlyed
