20-year-old Mollie Cecilia Tibbetts (DOB: May 8, 1998), a student at the University Of Iowa in Iowa City, went missing on the evening of July 18th 2018. Mollie had been dog-sitting for her boyfriend at his farm home while he was working at a construction job about 100 miles away in Dubuque.

A neighbor witnessed Mollie taking a jog that evening which she did on a regular basis. Around 10:00pm, Mollie's boyfriend received a Snapchat from her where she appeared to be safe and inside somewhere. She had also worked on her school work that evening from the home.

The time of when Mollie actually disappeared on the 18th is very difficult to pinpoint. She was reported missing the following day when she didn't show up for her daycare job. Mollie had also been planning to travel to the Dominican Republic for a wedding.

So glad to see the great work from Mishma being recognized! We are so proud of you! ❤❤❤

Mishma Nixon, a junior in CLAS and international student from Sri Lanka, recently published an article in Teen Vogue that urges universities to not burden students and faculty of color with sharing their personal experiences in conversations about race. Though classes on racial justice and similar issues are a great idea, Nixon said universities need to consider them less as a quick fix to racial issues and more like a single step in a much longer process.

“I honestly didn’t expect the amount of attention it got in the university circle, because everyone was sharing it,” Nixon said. “I got emails from both professors who have taught me and then those who haven’t at all, and it would just be one-word lines saying the article was amazing, and that was really nice. I put it out in the world and I have been seeing a lot of conversations about it, which I’m very happy about.” #ITHRIVE #UIowaCLAS #HawkshelpHawks #BacktoCLAS

The Multicultural and International Student Support and Engagement (MISSE) team here at UI includes dedicated educators who coordinate a variety of programs and services, including those at the four UI Cultural Centers on campus. This week, we'd like to highlight one of them, the Asian Pacific American Cultural Center (APACC) which recently just celebrated APACC Week. This semester, much of their programming has moved online to a newly created Discord server. Check out more from the APACC by connecting with them on Instagram (@uiowaapacc) and Discord!
