Our wild blueberry spread is so good. It’s made with grape juice as a sweetener. No processed sugar …this weekend I served it for our Sunday brunch on crêpes and I was reminded how delicious it is.

The Farmhouse Journey

Iowa Farmhouse is committed to providing unique products to your home bringing the “Iowa Farmhouse Feel” to you.

Life goes through many changes, and that is what our founder Nancy Faselt embraced early on starting her career at the University of Iowa as a microbiologist, but it was suddenly changed when her first baby died in the delivery room, her world had turned upside down. A year later she was able to have healthy children and decided to be a stay at home mom and spend time with her kids.

Nancy loved being a stay at home mom and decorating their century old farmhouse. She had always loved hooked rugs that her grandmother decorated with. Nancy pursued hooked rugs for their living room, but was unable to find them available in her area. The dream of “The Rug Cottage” was born.

Nancy’s husband John remodeled a small grain shed on the family acreage, and crafted a hand painted sign by the road. Nancy started with a few shelves of merchandise to sell along with hooked rugs and “The Rug Cottage” was opened in April of 1993. The little cottage took on many changes over the years including the addition of two more sons. Working from home and being able to care for the kids was a main priority.

Nancy’s favorite part of the store was meeting so many wonderful customers and being able to pursue her love of decorating and later antiquing “Barntiques” the century old bar next-door was added as an antique mall. Over the years Nancy had met thousands of wonderful and faithful customers.

As times changed, Nancy believed we should change. The rebranding to “Iowa Farmhouse” began. Over the coming years we have moved our operations to the barn, and continue to provide rugs, home decor, fragrances, antiques and our signature “Iowa Farmhouse Coffee”. We wanted to bring our “Iowa Farmhouse Feel” to the rest of the world on our website. We will continue to expand our availability of products online.

The original store has become an entertainment platform, where we are in the works of creating a farmhouse folk school to assist our customers and explore their “Iowa Farmhouse Feel.”
