These flag poles will represent the 6 branches of the service (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force) with the center pole being the US flag on top and the POW/MIA flag under it. The Armed Forces Flag Display will be placed inside a limestone raised flower bed. Schilling Masonry (who did the beautiful job on Durgin Pavillion & other Camp projects) will lay the stone for the flower bed. In front of the flags will be large, beautiful limestone monuments that will represent each branch of the service, donated by Weber Stone Company (into its fourth generation of support), with beautiful black granite etched illustrations of each branch, inlayed. In the center of this beautiful area, called Mainliner Memorial Park, will be a bronze sculpture of a Camper, in a wheel chair, with her hand over her heart, illustrating her saying the Pledge of Allegiance, just like a typical day at Camp. On the opposite side of the Armed Forces Display, will be a tribute to all those heroes, some who gave the ultimate sacrifice, on the war against the COVID-19 Pandemic.
This project was the brainchild of Teri Connell, who wanted to help fund something that would pay tribute to her folks, along with honoring those who served. Jeff Pitlik has been a huge ‘hands-on’ volunteer, coordinating the project. Brant Schmell, Wild Designs Landscaping, has done an exceptional job on providing Camp an accurate layout of the project along with hands-on work. Ren Miller, President of Strauss Architectural Systems LLC, Camp’s famous LED specialist (who lead the massive changeover of Camp from traditional lighting to LED) is developing an impressive lighting layout for the area. Ace Concrete LLC has done a super job on all the cement work.
To help pay for this project, Camp Courageous will be selling pavers for $1,000 each. They can acknowledge the name of a loved one that has served in the Armed Forces or they could acknowledge an individual, family, special event, company, etc. There will also be marble benches available for $5,000. And gifts of any amount are appreciated.
