Iowa Technology Institute within the College of Engineering at The University of Iowa conducts basic and applied research in human modeling and simulation, flight research, advanced manufacturing, bio-tech, and driving simulation.

The University of Iowa Technology Institute was founded as the Center for Computer-Aided Design in 1981. ITI conducts basic and applied research in modeling and simulation supported by more than 200 scientists, faculty members, and graduate and undergraduate students. ITI is organized into six Mission Areas:

University of Iowa Prof. Shaoping Xiao is researching a new approach to developing materials for high tech industries. His new National Science Foundation (NSF) grant also supports funding for undergraduate education in data science and engineering, recruiting female, underrepresented minority, and LGBTQ+ students, and more university outreach to K-12 students. Prof. Xiao is an Iowa Technology Institute faculty affiliate and an associate professor of mechanical engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering.

Congratulations to University of Iowa Prof. Fatima Toor. She was recently named the Lowell G. Battershell Endowed Chair in Laser Engineering for impact in her field and excellence in laser engineering research. Dr. Toor is a faculty affiliate conducting research with Iowa Technology Institute and is associate professor of electrical and computer engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering.

Congratulations to University of Iowa PhD candidate Mallory Tollefson, who has been awarded a 2021-22 American Fellowship from the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Mallory conducts research with Michael Schnieders, associate professor of biomedical engineering and biochemistry in the College of Engineering and an Iowa Technology Institute faculty affiliate. Mallory's research includes developing a machine learning method for protein structure prediction.

Iowa Technology Institute or ITI conducts basic and applied research in modeling and simulation.
