I am trying to determine how many of each type of childcare there is in Iowa, what type of childcare options parents choose, and why they made that choice. I also am asking how parents and providers feel about various childcare proposals.

A. Apply only through the Johnson County website. Application assistance is available from Direct Assistance Program community partners, including Iowa City Public Library, Coralville Public Library
Center for Worker Justice of Eastern Iowa:: Centro de Justicia Laboral, North Liberty Library, IC Compassion, North Liberty Community Pantry, Coralville Community Food Pantry.

B. Be aware: There is NO FEE to apply for the Direct Assistance Program or to receive application assistance.

Please join the mobility coordinator Kelly Schneider and University of Iowa Social Work student Shane’ Ahmedoska for a virtual How To Ride the Bus training on Wednesday, May 4th 9-10:30am.
The training will be held over zoom and is free to attend. In this training, Kelly and Shane’ will help guide you through the ins and outs of using the public transit systems in Johnson County.
This training is useful for people who currently are using public transportation or are interested in learning more about what Johnson County’s public transit has to offer. Participants are welcome to bring any questions they may have about public transit as well. No registration is needed. We look forward to seeing you there!

Last week we were honored to receive the United Way Game Changer Award for Financial Stability for the expansion of our General Assistance Program. General Assistance is a critical safety net that increases housing stability and reduces homeless by providing emergency rent and utility assistance. The Financial Wellness Learn-N-Earn workshops will be held at the Johnson County Health and Human Services Building on Thursday April 21, May 19, and June 16, 1:00 or via Zoom on April 14, May 12, and June 9, at noon. Teens Training Teens
PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID (PFA)
Learn skills for Psychological First Aid (PFA) a 3-hour online course designed to help high school students gain skills to manage distress and cope with post-disaster stress and adversity. This will help teens who want to learn new skills for dealing with crisis and support others in the aftermath of a disaster or traumatic event.
PFA is offered by Iowa high school students across Iowa who will train others in becoming ready to deal with crisis and trauma response.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Department of Human Services has been giving all eligible households the maximum SNAP benefit amounts. Starting on April 1, DHS will stop giving maximum benefits and begin determining benefit amount based on household size and income again. Some people are going to see significant drops in monthly benefits. It is important for households to make a plan to account for these differences, ahead of time. Check out resources available in the March 2022 edition of the Livable Community for Successful Aging Newsletter.

**Bonus Topic**: At the end of the training the presenters will share solution concepts for addressing employment transportation barriers they have been working on through the National Center for Mobility Management Design Challenge Grant.
