Also, where can we find out about hiking trails? Thank you.
Hi! We are camping for the first time at Sugar Bottom campground. We are older (retired) and have e-bikes. How can we find out about bike trails in the area? We see the mountain bike trails but are cautious. We would like paved bike trails. Hill are no problem. We need to ride from the campground as we brought the e-bikes in our travel trailer. Thanks for your help.
Had a great week exploring the area!! Thanks for the fantastic place to campπŸ•πŸ€˜
Thank you to all the USACE staff who helped us yesterday at SugarBottom. We had a tree fall on our 5th Wheel and your help was greatly appreciated getting it off and removed. While we hoped there was no damage and we could stay for the week, that was not the case. Our camping season has come to an end for the year. So sorry for the work you will have cleaning up. We would have loved to have been able to stay and help. Again, thank you for your immediate attention and help.
Will our Core Camp Grounds be opened on time? I'm ready to camp.
I was down at Sandy beach area and noticed buoys from sandy beach to bobbers, was wondering what they are for?
Boat ramp open at sugar bottom?
Where were the flags this year? We were highly disappointed to see they weren’t up!!
I went through your new automated teller at West Overlook this past weekend and I think you're going to have a problem with long backups on peak days. I have an annual pass so in the past I was able to bypass the line. Now, there is no bypass lane so everybody is going to have to wait even when they have already paid. Traffic could back up all the way to West Overlook road and your annual pass customers will not be happy to wait 20-30 minutes for everybody else in front of them to stop and pay.
Any docks in at boat ramps? How's water level?

Welcome to the official US Army Corps of Engineers page for Coralville Lake! The Daily Dudley - Hello all! Dudley here! With all the leaves on the ground, I'd thought I'd share the reminder to "leave the leaves". Fallen leaves provide great wildlife habitat and nutrients to gardens and the soil. Leaving the leaves also means less work for you and can even be chopped up with the mower if you'd like smaller pieces. Think of the leaves as fall-colored confetti for your yard. πŸ‚πŸŽŠ

They're baccccckkkkkkkkk! The Bald Eagles have begun to show up in numbers again just downstream of the dam. Mornings tend to be a good mealtime and we get a spectacular view.

Remember to listen for the laughing cries, according to the Eagles, everything is funny. πŸ¦…πŸ˜‚

The Daily Dudley - Hello all! Dudley here! On a rainy day like today with quiet campgrounds, I love to curl up with a good book and a blanket. My favorite books are those with a focus on nature and the great outdoors. Whether you're a fan of sharpening your skills with a guide book or a fiction book with a great setting, there is always something amazing to take in about nature. Do you have any great nature books to recommend? I think this pop-up book is quite fascinating. πŸ“šπŸ§

The Daily Dudley - Hello all! Dudley here! Today I was out enjoying the first leaves turning color. The loss of green is due to the breakdown of chlorophyll (gives leaves the green color) that takes precedence over the other pigments present throughout most of the year. When the chlorophyll is gone, the other colors get to shine. Make sure Coralville Lake is on your fall driving route.

What did one autumn leaf say to another? I'm falling for you!

Our friends up in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Portland District know how to make a great water safety meme! And they are correct! One does not simply enter the water without a life jacket. Of the total 767 boating deaths in 2020, 86% were not wearing their life jackets. #PleaseWearIt

Inflatable toys tend to drift away and retrieving them or anything drifting away (e.g. boats, hats, etc.) could be risking your life, especially if you’re not wearing a life jacket, so Please Wear It in, on, and near the water. Securing large inflatable toys is another great idea! #USACEeducates

While having fun in the sun, play it safe by wearing a life jacket and swimming and boating with a buddy. Assign someone as a water watcher to watch children constantly while in, on, or near the water! Make sure the watcher knows drowning is silent and can happen in seconds. @PleaseWearIt #USACEeducates

The Daily Dudley - Hello all! Dudley here! Today we began the final stages of the Devonian Fossil Gorge tour update. This included the removal of several of the silver stop markers.

Soon we will begin placing the new markers which are teal in color (pictured with me). This means that the current brochure guide is no longer accurate. We will still offer these brochures for information purposes while the new ones are being printed. Exciting changes are in the works and we're glad to have you along for the journey!
