Hi DWLLC Graduate Students,
WLGO is excited to invite you to our annual cultural event! The theme for this year’s cultural event is Arts and Crafts, in which we get to celebrate art and creativity from around the world (and even do some hands-on crafting in the process!).
We invite you to post a picture or video about a craft, art, other forms of creative activity from your culture on our collaborative Padlet: https://bit.ly/3CYsW2I
Sign in with your university email and indicate where on the map your craft/creative activity originates from; include any images and background info. You may post as often as you wish and be sure to check out others' posts and vote on your favorites! The posts with the most likes will receive a prize in the form of graduate student care packages, and winners will be announced during the event.
To close it off, we will have a Cultural Social on Thursday, November 18th at 6:30 p.m on Zoom (link will be sent through University email). Come chill with your fellow graduate students and enjoy some end-of-day multicultural fun!
Those interested in joining the Cultural Social on November 18th, please RSVP to the Google Form with your name and email, to receive a crafting kit in your PH mailbox for some live crafting during the event. This week, WLGO will host its second graduate roundtable for this semester titled "What About the Job Market?".
As we know, the job market is pretty daunting and is something that causes anxiety for many of us. So, we wanted to start a conversation about this theme and have invited two special guests who will be speaking at the roundtable:
Dr. Cynthia Vanessa Helene Laborde, recent graduate of the Department of French and Italian, and Alejandro Pérez Belda, A.B.D, from the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Iowa.
During the roundtable, we will have the opportunity to listen to their experiences with the job market as well as the opportunity to ask them questions.
The event will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, April 21, at 12 PM. Check your UIowa email for the link. We hope to see you there!

We know that being a graduate student is stressful, so we have decided to work with Student Wellness and conduct a Self-Care and Mindfulness Workshop on Friday, April 9th, at noon. Join us through the link sent to your UIowa email!

WLGO is thrilled to share with you the program for "Alterity, Margins, and Resistance," our 2021 graduate conference! How to participate in the WLGO Palentine’s Day Affirmation Exchange:

Hi everyone! There is one more day left to post on the padlet for WLGO's cultural event! We'll be celebrating this tomorrow at our November social, at 5 p.m. over Zoom. Watch your university email for the link!
Just a reminder that WLGO is hosting a virtual Cultural Event for DWLLC grad students this year, in lieu of our regular in-person event. The event will be happening November 2-19, with the theme "Eat, Drink and Be Merry!" It will "take place" on our Padlet map, "WLGO Cultural Collaboration." We are asking people to post a poster, video, or a picture relating to any of the three categories: eat, drink or be merry, on a relevant place on the map. You can contribute as many times as you like, "❤️" other's posts, and comment.
It is simple to participate and we'll be having a contest with prizes for the crowd favorites in each category. They will be announced on November 19. There are already several examples of posts up on the Padlet!
