Political science grad students presented at the 2021 ISA-Midwest Conference, along with Prof. Mitchell and Prof. Kadera in November. Willow Kreutzer says “It was a great experience to present my first solo authored work examining natural disasters effects on female trust at ISA-Midwest. This conference is a wonderful space for graduate students to present their work, gather valuable feedback, and network. It also provides us the opportunity to hang out with faculty outside the classroom and explore a bit of St. Louis! I cannot wait for ISA-Midwest 2022!”

Check out the recent research by honors seminar Exploring Data at UIowa POLI:4000. Much of what the students find is political in nature, however, they also uncover interesting data in many other areas, including sports, the environment, business, entertainment, healthcare, and transportation. Don’t be surprised if you find a quirky blog post on pet ownership sandwiched between two academic political posts. What all of their posts share is a commitment to presenting interesting patterns and relationships in data. Visit the Exploring Data at UIowa webpage at https://poli4000uiowa.wordpress.com/home

The Department of Political Science recently installed wall plaques to recognize and honor the political science and international relations classes of Spring 2020, Summer 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted graduation ceremonies for these students and posed several new challenges as they completed their time at Iowa. We’re pleased to display their names on the 3rd floor of Schaeffer Hall!

The Iowa Law Expo—MAPLA Caravan welcomed law schools from 19 states to the University of Iowa campus, giving students the opportunity to learn more about individual schools and the law school application process. In addition to the law school fair, students attended sessions including a tour of Iowa Law, a panel of current law students, legal careers, preparing for the LSAT, and more. The event was co-sponsored by Iowa Law, CLAS, Academic Advising Center, Pomerantz Career Center, and Phi Alpha Delta and made possible by the support of the Midwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors.

Student remarks:
"I had certain schools I was interested in, but after talking with other schools I am now expanding my application list. Talking to representatives from the law schools allowed me to better prepare for the application process. The law school reps were really informative and easy to talk to."

Law School Rep remarks:
"The Iowa students were engaged and asked great questions Iowa has top quality students!"
