Finished phase 2 of my Azec decking project today. Maybe the biggest job I've ever taken on, on my own. Iowa 2022

Photos from Cary Carpentry & Construction's post 06/30/2022

Phase 2/front yard of my deck project is underway. Removing the old decking, beefing up the framing and installing top of the line Azec decking. To keep everything tight I use spacer blocks (orange deals), attach a cleat behind me(2 by 4) and use two spreaders to keep the pressure consistent and adjust on the fly.

Going to turn this pile of Douglas Fir into an entertainment center, some faux beams and a handrail. Trust the process. Iowa 2022

First phase of this deck project is done. I replaced the old deck boards with top of the line Azec decking, notched and replaced the cedar posts and rails. The spindles are 3/8 inch metal rod with about 3 coats of gloss black fusion paint and primer. Laying out/ spacing the spindles took some time. I got my layout on the bottom rail, installed the top rail, transferred the mark with a Lazer to the bottom of the top rail, uninstalled the top tail and drilled all the holes with a 3/8 forstner bit and reassembled. Front porch, back deck, and stair rail repair. Replacing all the old deck boards with top of the line pvc decking. Also reworking the posts and rails. All cosmetic and no structural, but I always like to build a platform for demo and install while working solo. Iowa River 2022

Basement remodel in the Auburn East Neighborhood. Coralville, IA. The three panel Maple door pictured was pretty pricey , but needed to match the other older Maple door down the hall/ not pictured. I worked with the client to find a less expensive option, 3 panel Poplar doors and trim for everything behind the hall.

Getting this reconfiguring project wrapped up in Morse, IA. I was wondering how the solid pine door would look against the white trim ...I'm into it. Going to build a pair of matching solid pine bookshelves next week and call it a day

Kitchen island wainscoting project. I wanted to match the detail from the existing cabinet on the far left, which meant I had to bring the baseboard down to 4 inches. On the far right I transitioned the baseboard back to 7 1/2 inches matching the rest of the room. Iowa 2021

Plynth blocks, fresh second coat on the sills, and casing legs front to back. I did all extensions and rips pre stain so I'm not dragging finished product through the table saw etc. When I go to install soon it will be all crosscuts and returns

Trimming out the top floor of this turn of the century farmhouse. I'm batting cleanup for a previous contractor in order to get the house on the market in October. None of the windows or doors were prepared correctly, so I'm adding extensions to all the casing legs (see chop saw)

Recreating some old wide pine trim for a farmhouse outside of Iowa City. New Radiata Pine is notoriously difficult to stain so everything has to be sanded down to open the grain, pre conditioned, stained, and polyed.
