Friends of Hickory Hill has contracted with Heritage Land Stewards to mow the dogwood area near the Conklin St. entrance to the Park. This dogwood thicket is an important wildlife habitat that we intend to maintain. If left alone the area will turn to closed-canopy forest. By cutting the dogwood now, it will return from the roots and be maintained as a dogwood-habitat area. In addition to the mowing of the dogwood, invasive autumn olive and honey suckle were cut and treated first.

Please be aware that work crews will be in this area in the coming weeks. All work is done in coordination with the Iowa City Park Department. Your contributions to our organization, including purchases of our annual calendar, help to fund land restoration projects in the park. Thank you.
