Pride Alliance Center
Hawkeyes, celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month with the Pride Alliance Center!
Congratulations to Danita Brown, one of our 30+ students pursuing experiential learning this summer with the support of a John E. Evans Experiential Learning Award! Danita is a Sport and Rec Mgmt student from Chicago and works on campus as the Women's Soccer team student manager, in Membership Services for Recreational Services, and as a programming assistant at the Pride Alliance Center.
Danita said, "I was accepted into the San Diego Sport Consulting Practicum and I was so happy to receive the email that I was one of the scholarship recipients, I have never been able to go on a UISRM trip simply because I could not afford it. This scholarship allows me to be able to go on my first SRM off-campus event."
We are proud of you, Danita, and thankful to the Evans Family Foundation for the impactful support you provide to our students!
You can learn more about John E. Evans at this link to our website: https://clas.uiowa.edu/hhp/john-e-evans

🌤🌦☁️🌈🌬 We are so excited to share the Pride Alliance Center events for Pride Week at University of Iowa! The theme of 2021 Pride Week is, “Growing Together Through All Kinds of Weather.” Each event is connected with an emotional weather symbol to go along with the covered topics.

Follow @uiowapridehouse on Instagram this week to learn what each symbol means!
It's Pride Week at University of Iowa! Plan to take a walk around campus with this engaging, immersive audio walking tour, "I'm Writing to You Today," created by University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts and Pride Alliance Center.

During the next several days, we'll be introducing the recipients of the Sport and Rec Mgmt program's first-ever Diversity Scholarships. The scholarships were awarded this semester based on a broad definition of diversity as our program continues to seek opportunities to support students from underrepresented and marginalized groups in our undergraduate and graduate programs.
Today we celebrate Danita Brown. Danita is a third-year student from Chicago. At Iowa, Danita works as the women's soccer team student manager, as a membership services representative in Rec Services, and as a programming assistant at the Pride Alliance Center. Danita is also an active member of the Black Student Union and the SRM student organization. Danita said, "This scholarship means more to me than words can express," and shared that the scholarship would help maintain her focus on her classes by reducing the pressure to work as many hours as possible at her several jobs.
Congratulations, Danita! Thank you for being an important part of the UISRM community!
If you or someone you know wants to support future scholarships for SRM students, please consider making a donation at this link (or sharing the link): https://1dayforiowa.org/fa-srm21 during the One Day for Iowa initiative. Your gift between now and March 24 will help the SRM program climb the leaderboard and earn extra financial support that we then direct toward financial aid and programming that supports our students. Thank you!

🏠 October 29, 2006🎉

To our LGBTQ+ Hawkeye community,

Thanks to student and staff advocacy, we opened in 2006 as the LGBT Resource Center, and serve in 2021 as the Pride Alliance Center. Today, we celebrate and honor 15 years at the house with the red door.

15 years of advocating.
15 years of learning and growing.
15 years with our chosen family. With you.

& we are excited that YOU are here to continue building our history. Thank you for being a friend. 🥰

With love,

As part of Pride Week, we are excited to promote an engaging experience, "I'm Writing to You Today," created by Ann Kreitman, an MFA Directing Candidate.

"I'm Writing to You Today is an environmental audio experience that will lead you through campus in the footsteps of our queer ancestors. This outdoor experience will begin at the University of Iowa Theatre Building (200 N. Riverside Drive, Iowa City, Iowa) and will last approximately one hour. Available for digital download on Spotify and Apple Podcasts beginning April 1.

I'm Writing to You Today is a gift to the LGBTQ+ community of Iowa, celebrating the fact that we always have and always will find our path to love.
